ANIMAL S ’RESPIRATION
The exchange of gases inside the body is RESPI RATION.
Animals breathe in oxygen and breathe out carbon dioxide.
How do mammals breathe? Mammals take in oxygen from the
air. It passes into the lungs. In the lungs blood carries the
oxygen to the rest of the body.
How do fishes breathe? Fishes take oxygen from water. Water enters the body through the
mouth and leaves through the gills. Gills absorbe oxygen from water. Carbon dioxide is expelled from the
gills.
How do insects breathe? They have a very simple respiratory
system. They have tiny tubes, called tracheae
in their bodies. Tracheae take in oxygen and expell
carbon dioxide.
How do amphibians breathe? When they are young, they are aquatic animals. So they breathe through the gills.During metamorphosis , their gills close and they develop lungs to breathe.
