GIRAFFES The Giraffe is a famous animal of Africa. Giraffes live near the trees and they especially like acacia trees. Because they eat kind of leaves on the dryland and they move in groups. Giraffes have 4 long and strong legs, a long neck, a long tongue and a long tail. Also they have 2 short horns. They are very tall which is 5.5metres for males and 4.5metres for females. And when they run they can go 100kilometres per hour. The Giraffe has just one baby. They have a 400 to 450 days gestation period. The baby`s height at birth is on average 2 metres. Also they feed their young on milk for 2years and then they take care of the baby for more than 1-2years. The Giraffe is protected by the government in Africa. The Government has plans including collecting seed from acacia for food, migrating the girafes into national park or reserve areas

Siamese CrocodileThe Siamese crocodile is a native of Thailand.

In Thailand we have 3 types of crocodile: Siamese, C. porosus and Tomistoma. It looks like a lizard but is bigger and longer. They have a long head and flat body and tail, short legs and powerful jaws. Their skin has scales and is very rough. They also have webbed feet and sharp claws. Their legs at the front have five fingers but the legs at the back have four fingers.

They eat meat and their favourite food is frogs, fish, deer, cows, dogs and birds.

The crocodile lays between 20-50 eggs and adults feed mainly on fish but also eat frogs, birds and small animals.

In Thailand they protected because they are used for business. In the summer they like to live in the water and in the winter they like to live in the land. They stand with their mouth open all day.

Siberian Tiger

Siberian tigers are the world’s largest cats. They live in eastern Russia, China and North Korea.

They have brown striped fur and powerful legs. They lie in wait to attack their victims’ hungry tiger can eat as much as 27kgs in one night. Most tiger avoid humans, but a few do become dangerous man-eaters’.

They deliver two to six cubs. Cubs cannot hunt until they are 18 months. They remain with their mother for two to three years until they become independent.

There are protected, because there are only about 400-500 Siberian tigers living in the wild. Also people have reduced the woodland so they have become endangered. Also their body parts are used in traditional Chinese medicine which is a threat to Siberian Tigers.

Royal Bengal Tiger

The Royal Bengal Tiger is the native animal of Bangladesh and it lives in Sundarbans, area in the east of Bangladesh.

The royal Bengal tiger is reddish orange with narrow black, gray of brown stripes. The underside is creamy or white with darker stripes and it has icy blue eyes. It feeds on pigs, deer and buffalo. The tiger can consume as much as 40 kg of meat in one feeding.

The weight is 225 kg and female, 135 kg. It looks like a cat but it is larger than a cat. The tiger is timid and it is secretive and essentially solitary. It can jump 5 and 6 meters and it likes water and can swim very well. The tiger hunts mostly at dusk and dawn because their stripes help them hide in the shadows of tall grasses. They stalk and pounce because they are not able to chase prey a long distance. They are commonly seen in the shade or wading in pools to cool off.

It is estimated that there are less than 3,000 Royal Bengal Tiger left in the wild.

Report about the Leopard

The leopard is a native of Taiwan. The animal`s appearance looks like a tiger with dark grey or ochre in color. They have strong tails to help them to balance while perched on tree branches. Their legs are short and stout with broad paws.

The leopards are carnivores as they eat snakes, birds, monkeys, etc. They live in forests at elevations of up to 80000 feet. Most of the time they live in trees.

The leopard’s habitat is the jungle and they move during the night. The forests are their home but many people like shooting this animal so they might disappear. We must protect this animal for our future. People must avoid destroying this innocent wild animal.

Tiger SnakeIntroductionThe tiger snake is a type of venomous snake found in southern regions of Australia including its coastal Islands and Tasmania.

HabitatTiger snakes are most often seen near creeks, rivers and swamps. They can also be found in dry areas. They can climb small trees and shrubs. Tiger snakes are active during the day and also during the night in warmer weather.

AppearanceTiger snakes are thick-bodied snakes, they are usually around 1 m long but many grow up to 2 m. Their head is slightly wider from their neck. Tiger snakes range in colour from grey, brown, black, red and yellow. The belly can be cream, yellow, grey, and olive green with the head dark grey bluish or black

What they eat Tiger snakes are largely frog predators. When young they eat frogs, black rats but they also eat other

reptiles, birds, small mammals and fish. They have poisonous venom that helps break down the prey in their stomach. The warmth from the son also helps the digestion of food.

EmuThe emu is a native of Australia. It’s the world’s third largest bird. But they can’t fly.

The emu lives all over Australian grasslands. They like to stay around water. But they avoid heavily populated areas, dense forest and arid areas.

The emu is 1.5 to 2 metres tall and about 36 kilograms of weight. They have 3 toes and long legs. The emu can be up to 1.5 metres wide. The female is larger than the male.

The emu feeds on grass, leaves and small insects. The female emu lays up to 20 eggs. Then the male makes the nest and sits on the eggs for about 8 weeks. The male emu looks after the young until they are 2 years old.

Report on Komodo Drag By Irma

The Komodo dragon is a native of Flores an Indonesian island.

The Komodo dragon lives in dry open land, savana and tropical forest. They like dry and hot places. It is mostly active in the day time, because it is cold blooded. Although it is sometimes active in the night too. They like to live alone, only the Komodo come together to breed and eat.They can run up to 20 kilometres per hour and accelerate up to 4.5 meters at top speed, in a period of short time.

The Komodo dragon digs the holes for protection with powerful legs and it has sharp claws. This hole can be 1-3 metres wide. Because it is very big and sleeps in the holes, it is able to keep warm though the night. The Komodo usually hunts in the afternoon, Komodo dragon has special resting places on ridges that catch cool sea breezes.

The Komodo dragon has a tail as long as its body and about 60 sharp teeth that can grow up to 2.5 cm long. It also has a long, yellow forked tongue. Its saliva is red because the gums almost completely cover its teeth.

The Komodo dragon is a reptile.

Carabao

The Carabao is a type of water buffalo is the national animal of The Philippines.

Carabaos are well adapted to a hot and humid climate. Wild carabaos can be found on grassy lands near water such as lakes and wide rivers and domestic carabaos usually live on a farm because the farmers use them for pulling ploughs. They also produce large quantities of milk.

The Carabao eats grass and vegetables.

They have fairly long grey or black hair thinly covering their huge body and their weight is almost 2000 pounds. Since they have no sweat glands, they cool themselves by lying in a water hole or mud during the heat day. They are mammals and the female carabaos can deliver one calf each year.

KoalaIntroduction

The koala is a native animal of Australia. No other animal in the world is like the koala. They live in small groups and are called marsupials.

Habitat

The koala lives in bush land areas. They live in high branches of the trees. Normally the koala’s breeding season is from August to February. At this time the young from previous years are ready to leave their mother and become independent. Usually a female has one young each year but may not breed in some years.

Appearance

Koalas have soft, thick and grey or brown fur on their back and white fur on the stomach. They have a large hairless nose and round ears. They don’t have a tail. Adult koalas measure between 64 to 76 cm in length and weigh between 7 and 14 kg. The female koala has a pouch to carry her baby. The tiny baby is called “Joey”. They also have long toes and sharp claws. They are mostly silent in the day time and moving around at night time.

Feeding

Koalas are herbivores. They usually eat grass, plant and leaves. The baby koala feeds on her mother’s milk inside the pouch.

80 years ago koalas were in a very danger condition becausethey were hunted by people for their fur and people used koala’sfur to make jackets, blankets and purses but now this is illegal.

ElephantsIntroduction:

There are two different types of elephants, Asian and African elephants.  Sometimes people split the Africa elephant in to Forest African elephant and Bush African elephants.

Appearance:

Elephants are the largest land-living mammal in the world. Both genders of African elephants have tusks however only male Asian elephants have tusks. They use their tusks for digging and finding food. Elephants have large, thin ears mostly made of blood vessels, which regulate an elephant’s temperature. Their trunk can grow to about two meters long and weigh about 140kg!!!

How they live:

Female elephants are called cows. Females start having calves at 12 years old, they are pregnant for about 22 months. Elephants have no natural predators, however lions will sometimes prey on young elephants. Elephants lift food and water with their trunk.

Food:

Elephants can drink up to 210 liters of water a day!! Elephants are herbivores. Herbivores are animals that eat plants only. Elephants look for food 16 hours a day, collecting leaves, twigs, bamboo and roots.

Conclusion:

Elephants are the largest land mammal in the world. They drink a lot of during their lives. They are a social animal, living in herds.
