2.9 online and offline edit ideas with existing working copy functionality

Offline Edit

online edit shown if webdav configured/cifs enabled or inline edit enabled

User clicks ‘edit offline’. This intitates download, locks the original file and creates a working copy (ideally we would hide this copy from the user and let them work against the original).

New download icon (we wil l have replaced the current edit action (pencil) with online and offline edit icons

This page could be a user option that always starts the download process when they click edit offline - on by default?

Download of [document name] for offline editing

If your document does not start downloading in 10 seconds then click here

If you do not want files to start downloading automatically when you select offline editing then click here.

[document name] was uploaded successfully

Document1(working copy)

user commits the changes (done editing). They can also check the box in previous upload dialog to say they are done editing to skip this step.

Edit Online - Local App

online edit shown if webdav configured/cifs enabled, inlne editing enabled

User clicks ‘edit online’. This intitates download and opening in associated app on local machine, locks the original file and creates a working copy (ideally we would hide this copy from the user and let them work against the original).

New download icon (we should remove the current edit action (pencil)

User edits the document and saves and keeps the document open.

The Web client UI shows the orginal file as locked.

To mark the end of editing the user clicks ‘done online editing’

If user clicks online edit icon at this point it will simply open up the document in word - this will always be available while the user has the document locked.

If the document is open locally online edit icon could we indicate that it is currently being edited (and tooltip info)?
