EMAIL

Electronic Mail

It was originally developed to send simple

messages. Now, HTML bases email can use the

same code as web pages to incorporate

formatted text, colors, and images into the

message. Documents can be also attached to

email messages.

Wiki (a Hawaiian word “wiki wiki” = super fast)

Collaborative Website

A web site that allows users to add or edit a

content on the site using their own web

browser.

SOCIAL BOOKMARKING

The practice of saving bookmarked Web pages

to a public website to share the links with other

internet uses.

A tool that allows you to add tags and

comments to your bookmarks.

Hypertext Markup Language

A markup language used to structure text and

multimedia documents and to set up hypertext

links between documents, used extensively on

the World Wide Web.

Podcast (iPod + Broadcast)

It’s an Audio and Video broadcasts that comes

out in episodes.

It can be created by anyone who has a

microphone or a digital video camera and a

computer with a recording software.

VOIP

Voice over Internet Protocol

Voice transmitted over a digital network.

Often referred as IP Telephony (IPT) because it

uses internet protocols to make possible

enhanced voice communications.

It may refer to any kind of communication over

the internet that offers a real-time

transmission of text messages from sender to

receiver. Chat messages are generally short in

order to enable other participants to respond

quickly, a feeling similar to a spoken

conversation.

WWW

World Wide Web

Collection of internet resources, hyperlinked

text, audio, video files and remote sites that can

be accessed and searched by browsers based on

the standards such as HTTP and TCP/IP.

STREAMING

Data streaming commonly seen in the forms of

audio and video streaming. It is when a

multimedia file can be played back without being

downloaded first.

BLOG

A web site that contains online personal journal

with reflections, comments, and often

hyperlinks provided by the writer.

SOCIAL NETWORKING

Social networking websites allow users to be a

part of a virtual community. For example

Facebook. These websites provide users with

simple tools to create a custom profile with text

and pictures. A typical profile includes basic

information about the user, possibly a blog or

other comment published by the user. Advanced

profiles may include videos, photo albums or

online applications.

Used to get a specific web address.

A document which contains content items with

web links to longer versions. News websites and

blogs are common sources for web feeds. The

two main web feed formats are RSS and Atom.
