AOLT-4000-CTL

AOLT-4000-CTLGPON Control Card

Feature Summary ApplicationsOne or two AOLT-4000-CTL cards, installed at either end of an AOLT-4000 chassis, can be used to control and manage the AOLT-4000 system.

High Performance Control PlaneThe AOLT-4000-CTL card extends a dedicated, out-of-band GbE control plane link, over the backplane, to each slot in the AOLT-4000 chassis. The AOLT-4000-CTL card contains a high-performance embedded CPU that executes the system-level control and management plane software for the AOLT-4000 platform, including system-level resource allocations, critical alarm/event report-ing, etc. The card’s software implements a flexible, low-overhead inter-card communications framework that assists in fast protection switching of the switch/timing and GPON line cards in the AOLT 4000 chassis, or resources in them.

Persistent StorageTwo GBytes of persistent storage are available for configuration data and software images for all the cards in the AOLT-4000 chassis.

High AvailabilityTo increase the control plane availability, a second mate AOLT-4000-CTL card can be inserted in the AOLT-4000 chassis, providing 1+1 redundancy. Failure of the active or standby AOLT-4000-CTL card, or both of them, does not affect the working traffic in the AOLT-4000 chassis. The AOLT-4000-CTL card also ensures high availability for other cards in the system through dedicated hardware level inter-card signaling.

ManagementThe AOLT-4000-CTL supports SNMP based management of all the cards in the AOLT-4000 platform from Alphion’s Element Management System (AEMS). Using a 1Gbps control plane link to AOLT-4000-SWT (the AOLT-4000 platform’s Switch and Timing card), the AOLT-4000-CTL card supports in-band manage-ment of the AOLT-4000 system through one of the network uplink ports of the Switch and Timing card.

ApplicationsAs a key card of the AOLT-4000 platform, AOLT-4000-SWT enables efficient and controlled forwarding of Ethernet/packet traffic between the GPON lines cards and the uplink service/edge node (typically, a router or a switch).

Robust Layer-2 SwitchingAOLT-4000-SWT contains a high-capacity switching engine that supports hardware based learning of up to 16K MAC addresses, 4094 VLANs, and Independent VLAN Learning (IVL) based forwarding. It also supports MAC, protocol and subnet based VLANs; IEEE 802.1ad/Q-in-Q VLAN stacking; and IEEE 802.3ad link aggregation. Featuring an aggregate switching capacity of 200 Gbps, the AOLT-4000-SWT supports line-rate forwarding of unicast and multicast packets, for all packet sizes, under all conditions.

Packet Filtering/ClassificationAOLT-4000-SWT includes a flexible packet filter/classifier that can filter packets based on any layer 2 to 7 field, including MAC address, IP address, VLAN ID, packet type, etc, supporting multiple lookups and actions per packet. Filter actions include dropping, priority re-marking, rate limiting, etc. The AOLT-4000-SWT card also supports access control list (ACL) based policing; flow metering, with a granularity of 64 kbps to 1 Gbps; two rate three color marking (trTCM); and class-based marking for SLAs.

Intelligent QoSAOLT-4000-SWT supports 8 priority queues per port, head of line blocking prevention, service aware flow control, bandwidth guarantee per class of service and/or per port, DSCP re-marking, DSCP to 802.1p mapping, and 2 levels of drop precedence per queue. It features a packet scheduler that supports multiple scheduling algorithms, including strict priority (SP), weighted round robin (WRR), and deficit round robin (DRR). The AOLT-4000-SWT also supports individual rate limiting of broadcast, unknown unicast, and multicast traffic on a per port basis.

AONT-1010 supports video contents delivered in the form of data (by multicast or unicast).

High Bandwidth GPONThe AONT-1010 is fully FSAN (ITU-T G.984) compliant with a 1.244 Gbps upstream and 2.488 Gbps downstream, Class B+ GPON system. In addition, it supports downstream AES (128-bit key) and downstream and upstream FEC RS(255,239).

Ethernet Quality of ServiceThe AONT-1010 has extensive Ethernet QoS features, including 802.3x flow control, DSCP to 802.1p mapping, upstream congestion control, and down-stream traffic scheduling for premium or time sensitive content. Intelligent and robust buffer and queue management for Ethernet traffic, with individual prioritizable queues, ensures that tiered residential service offerings based on different bit-rates and QoS can be supported.

SecurityThe AONT-1010 comes with the latest security features, including MAC address spoofing protection, MAC/IP address port binding, MAC/IP address limiting on a per port basis, access control list (ACL) based on port, MAC address and Ether-type, and DOS prevention.

Small form-factorA space conscious package for simplified wall or table mounting.

Flexible ManagementThe AONT-1010 is managed from the AOLT-4000 OLT over the GPON’s OMCI channel. The AOLT in turn is managed with either Alphion’s Element Manage-ment System (AEMS) that provides configuration, profile based provisioning, event and fault management and performance monitoring for the AONT, or with a 3rd party EMS using SNMP or a legacy NMS.

6500 Modulator

Alphion’s standards-based ONT family brings world class features and tremendous flexibility to carrier PON deployments, while offering the broadest array of proven OLT interoperability.

For RF video deployments, Alphion integrates standards-compliant RF return capability into the ONT, giving service providersa practical solution for delivering video services to residential customers over GPON while retaining existing set-top boxes(STBs).

As part of this feature set, Alphion’s 6500 Modulator isan essential component of GPON networks withSCTE 55-1 standard based STBs and head ends.Used in conjunction with Alphion’s RF return pathcapable ONTs, such as the 1356 with integrated RFreturn path capability, Alphion 6500 Modulatorreceives upstream data from customers requestingpay-per-view or VoD services as shown in thefigure below.

6500 Modulator Features

Ethernet InterfaceThe 6500 Modulator connects to the GPON network through a 10/100Base-TEthernet interface located on the frontpanel. It meets IEEE 802.3 specifica-tions and supports full and half duplexmodes.

RF InterfaceThe 6500 Modulator connects to the headend through a coaxial connector locatedon the rear panel. This interface emu-lates the RF packets and power level tothe head end demodulator as if theyare transmitted directly from STBs. It hasa software configurable gain settingthat ensures that the receivedset-top box packet power level is properly attenuated to meet the head end demodulator input power level of 0 dBmV+/- 5 dB.

Craft InterfaceAn RS-232 DB-9 serial interface provides craft user access via the front panel, used for modulator parameter configura-tion, password administration, modulator enable/disable, and 15-minute, 24-hour or current running performancecount retrieval. All configuration parameters are preserved following power-up and reset. Supports dedicated terminalserver or Telnet sessions.

ASPL Series

ASPL SeriesGPON Passive Optical Splitter

Cost EffectiveAlphion’s family of passive optical splitters offer a cost effective solution that allows service providers to distribute content from a single fiber to multiple subscribers through a point-to-multipoint architecture facilitated through the use of optical splitters. These splitters can be arranged in a single, centralized fashion or distributed in a cascaded configuration. Since the network is purely passive, it is essential that splitter loss is kept to a minimum. Alphion’s splitter family is designed and manu-factured to insure minimal splitter loss and maintain uniformity, thereby improv-ing optical reach

Flexible ConfigurationAlphion’s ASPL series of passive optical splitters are available in a range of configurations for designing an optimized PON network. Available options include 1x2, 1x4, 1x8, 1x16, 1x32 and 1x64. For networks that employ fiber path protection, the ASPL series of splitters also include the following configurations - 2x2, 2x4, 2x8, 2x16, 2x32, and 2x64.

The ASPL series of splitters also include indoor rack mount splitter options that employ standard LGX catridges to provide 1x2, 1x4, 2x2 and 2x4 configurations.

PON.ext

PON Reach Extension System

DescriptionThe AEXT-5100 Series of GPON Reach Extension products is an innovative solution that Alphion provides to cater to the needs of FTTx service providers that require a technology / product to enable them to extend the reach of their existing Central office PON OLTs without having to put in remote OLTs to serve a cluster of subscribers. The AEXT 5100 PON.ext™ products are based on Alphion’s proprietary QLight® technology platform for the manufacturing of advanced discrete photonic integrated circuits (PICs). Because the AEXT 5100 PON.ext™ products use the same InP semiconductor technology used in virtually all telecom lasers, it is able to amplify signals at 1310 and 1490 nm, wavelengths not accessible with commercial fiber-amplifier (EDFA) technology. Due to extremely fast response time of the InP semiconductor optical amplifier inside, the PON.ext™ can accomodate both continuous (downstream) and bursty (upstream) traffic. Alphion’s proprietary approach to the incorporation of gain elements, optical filters, wavelength division multiplexers, input and output power detectors, as well as the associated control electronics for adiabatic gain control insures high and uniform performance over the lifetime of the PON.ext™.

Central Office ConsolidationAs service providers worldwide put an increased emphasis on rural connectivity spurred on by government support, they realize that cluster of subscribers are not usually within the serving area of a typical PON OLT system. For carriers faced with the option of installing and managing remote OLTs or setting up multiple small central office, the Alphion AEXT-5100 offers a cost effective alternative. The AEXT-5100 offers the ability to extend the reach of a standard PON port to 60 km thereby eliminating the need to setup multiple central offices. Even within urban areas, the use of reach extension technology allows service providers to consid-erably reduce their CAPEX and OPEX budgets by collapsing multiple central offices into a single facility.

Increased Port UtilizationThe AEXT-5100 allows service providers to deploy up to 128 subscribers on a single GPON Port thereby doubling the subscriber capacity of exisiting GPON systems. This increased capacity can be provided simultaneously with the increased reach of 60 km enabling carriers to rapidly and cost effectively increase both their reach and capacity.

Transparent all optical reach extension for all PON technologies - BPON, EPON, GPON, 10GEPON and NGPON1/2

Compliant with ITU-T G.984.6 recom-mendation for GPON reach extension

Transparent to any vendor-specific implementation of GPON frame struc-ture

Completely self configuring, Plug N Play implementation

Ability to provide 128 subscribers / PON port at 60 km reach

Utilizes Alphion QLight® semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) technology

Utilizes 40 nm (1310 + 20 nm) optical filter in upstream direction to limit SOA amplified spontaneous emission (ASE)

Single RU chassis fits into 19” standard rack, 600 mm ETSI rack or 23” rack using mounting adapters

Redundant -48 V power supplies
