Why  IoT  Santander  LL?  

•  The  City  Council  and  Regional  Government  are  convinced  that  a   new   economic   cycle   based   on   knowledge   and   innova:on  will  provide  the  basis  for  sustainable  growth.

•  Smart  Santander  was  perceived  from  the  very  beginning  as  a  golden   opportunity   for   lining   up   the   vectors   of   the   value  chain:  §  Industry,  in  par:cular  SMEs.  §  Research  centers.  §  Other  agents.  

•  This  situa:on  (with  some  delay)   is  now  par:ally  mimicked  at  na:onal  level  with  more  emphasis  on  the  service  component.

How  is  IoT  Santander  LL  becoming  a  reality?  

•  With  important  support  from: §  Regional  Government  (budge:ng  500,000  K€  for  IoT  devices)  §  City   Council   making   available   most   of   their   public  infrastructures   (street   lamps,   parking   areas,   public   transport  system,  etc.)  

§  University  priori:zing  the  project.    §  Telefónica    providing  support  and  exploi:ng  the  infrastructure  §  Relevant   impact   in   the   media   (na:onal/interna:onal   TV,  newspapers,  journals…).  

§  …and  of  course  the  European  Commission.

Technologies  and  Services  

•  We   rely   on   heterogeneous   wireless   sensor   technology   fulfilling   the  requirements  of  a  hos:le  outdoor  environment:  §  Duality  experimenta:on-­‐service  provision.

•  Some  of  the  services  are:  §  Traffic   management   (parking   control,   public   transport  smart-­‐management,  traffic  condi:ons)  

§  Public  street  ligh:ng  §  Environmental  monitoring  

•  How   are   the   ci:zens   involved   in   IoT   Santander   LL  service  priori:za:on?  §  Par:cipatory  sensing  §  Augmented  reality  §  Mobile  sensing

Mobilizing  all  the  stakeholders  •  Through   clear  messages   from  Regional  Government  about  the  priori:es:  §  Collabora:ve  project  ini:a:ves    on  Smart  Ci:es.  §  RoK  

•  The  City  Council  :  §  Making   the   ci:zens   aware   that   something   is   happening  around  them.  

§  Involving  them  through  ques:onnaires  and  other  tools.  

•  Looking   for   a   mee:ng   point   among   the   industry,  financial   sector   (Santander   Bank)   and   research  centers  to  achieve  a  sustainable  exploita:on  model.
