5 WAYS TO FIX “DNS SERVER UNAVAILABLE” ERROR IN WINDOWS
What a pleasant thing to talk or chat online with your mates and
loved ones on special occasions. What if you become a victim of
“DNS Server Unavailable” error? You can’t do anything except of
shutting down your system in a desperate mood. Don’t be

“Your DNS server might be unavailable” Error Evaluation
You need to evaluate the error so that you could identify the
reason. For this purpose you should change your browser first. If
you are trying to open some web pages in Google Chrome, you
should try to open the same pages in another browser. If the
problem persists, it means you need to take some further steps to
fix it.

another device with the same internet connection. It will show
you that there is no hardware issue involved in it.
You should also try to connect the same device by using another
internet connection so that you could identify the actual cause
behind the scene. When you are sure about the error that is still
persisting, you can follow the below mentioned methods to fix it.
Flush DNS
A greatly effective method to get rid of this error is to “Flush the DNS”
by using your command prompt.
Step 1:
Just go to Home Screen of your Windows and press Win+R keys to
open the Run box.
Step 2:
Type “cmd.exe” and press Enter key to access command prompt.

Now you will see Command Prompt screen where you have to type the
first command “ipconfig /flushdns” and press “Enter” key. Now type the
second command “ipconfig /release” and press “Enter”. Now type the
third command “ipconfig /renew” and press “Enter”. Now exit from the
command prompt and that’s all.

system. Yahoo! Your problem is resolved and you are once again your
internet is working properly.
For Broadband Users
If you are a broadband user and you are using a router to access
internet, my advice to you is to change the settings of your device
because often there can occur a minor issue with your router’s software
and resetting your device can resolve this issue. You do not need any
special techniques to reset your router. Just observe the backside of your
router. You will see a reset button at the backside of the device.
Press and keep holding it for about five seconds and then release. It will
reset the router. Once you reboot your computer, it will be connected.
Delete Unnecessary Antivirus Programs
If you get this error, you need to check whether you are using one or more
Antivirus programs? If there are more than one Antivirus programs, it may be
the reason of this issue because there may be a compatibility issue
between your PC and the Antivirus software. So, what you need to do is to
keep only one security program and delete all others. Now restart your
system and that’s it.
For Windows 8 and 8.1 Users
If you are not aware of using cmd.exe command properly and it seems to
you an uphill task, there is another very easy solution for you. You can use
“Network Troubleshooter” to fix this problem automatically.
Just open the “Start” screen. Move the cursor of your mouse to the top right
corner of the screen and hover there until there appear the search box.
Type “Network Troubleshooter” in the search box and press “Enter”. Now the
troubleshooter will appear on the screen. Just follow the instructions
appearing on your screen to resolve this error.
Use Google’s Free DNS Servers
Step 1:
If you are still having the same DNS Server Unavailable issue, you need to
change your DNS servers. Use Google’s free DNS Servers to get rid of this
problem.
Step 2:
Just open your “Network Connections” menu. Right click on your broadband
connection and select “Properties” to view its content.

In the “Broadband Connection Properties”, there will appear “Internet
Protocol Version 4” that should be selected and click on its “Properties”.

Now check the radio button “Use the Following DNS Server addresses”. In the
box before “Preferred DNS server, you should add 8. 8. 8. 8 and in the
Alternate DNS server you should type 8. 8. 4. 4 and click “OK” to save these
DNS servers.
Google DNS Server Addresses Now, you will be using faster DNS servers and
there will be no more issues now.
FAQs
Q: I read on a website that if I disable IPV6, it will resolve the issue instead of
using Google’s DNS servers. How far it is true?
Ans: No, there is no use of disabling IPV6. If Google’s DNS servers do not fix
this issue, you can use Method # 1 to flush the DNS. It is highly effective.
Q: Is there any other DNS servers than those of Google’s?
Ans: Yes! If you do not want to use Google’s DNS servers, you can use Open
DNS servers 208.67.222.222 in “Preferred DNS Server and 208.67.220.220 in
“Alternative DNS Server box.
