1. Where are data centers located?
The location of your data plays a significant
role in assessing potential risks. Data centers
should be located in a variety of locations just
in case one center is taken out by an
environmental disaster.
2. Are they certified?
Certifications are issued by the AICPA after a
data center has successfully passed an audit
proving their capabilities with respect to:
security, availability, confidentiality,
processing integrity and privacy.
3. What about RTO and RPO?
When it comes to RTO and RPO, the
smaller these numbers, the better.
Recovery Time Objective (RTO): Your goal for the maximum
amount of time you would not be able to access your data.
Recovery Point Objective (RPO): Your goal for the
maximum amount of data that could be lost.
4. What are their storage options?
Implementing solid state storage into your
VDI deployment will make sure that data is
constantly being backed up in the fastest and
most efficient ways possible. It will also insure
that the data will be available at all times.

annual tests of the systems in order to have a
successful disaster recovery plan. Plans must
be tested to make sure all of the proper
changes and adaptations are working
properly when they are needed.
7. How redundant is their data center?
Redundancy is what can help protect your
data from encountering a disaster in the first
place. There needs to be several backup
servers, network switches, images, routers
and more to help get back on your feet after a
VDI disaster as quickly as possible.
8. Are they compliant?
Reputable cloud hosting and data center
partners will possess an “Attestation of
Compliance” from an auditor. This provides a
third party verification that they can support
specific compliance regimes.
9. Is the plan collaborative?
It’s critical that both you and the service
provider know what the disaster recovery
plan is and how it needs to be executed.
Skilled VDI disaster recovery providers will
work collaboratively with you as a partner to
understand your objectives and create a
solution that meets them.
10. Do they provide supplimentary services?
If you end up with a good VDI disaster
recovery service provider, you may want to
look into their other services in the future
including Managed Hosting, Enterprise Cloud
and Managed Performance services.
