About the AuthorMy name is Matthew Kahl. I am a mathematics major and computer science minor. I hope to help high school students develop their writing skills along with their critical thinking skills regarding computers and mathematics.

I grew up in Clinton Twp., MI and went to Chippewa Valley High School. Once attending Grand Valley State University, I was turned on to the sport of ultimate frisbee. This was my motivation for creating this tutorial.

• Two identified places of origin– Joel Silver, a student, created the sport in

1967 when creating a school Frisbee team. The students referred to it as the “ultimate game experience”.

– Amherst College student Jared Kass created the game with a friends. The rules were defined and used at Columbia High School in Maplewood, NJ.QuitQuit

Rules• Two teams of seven players,

substitutions can be made in between points

• To begin the game, teams stand at opposing end zones and pull the disc (throw it to the opposing team)

• The disc must weigh 175 grams• The disc can only be moved by passing

• A change of possession results on an incomplete pass

• A turnover also results when a passer gets stalled (they don’t pass the disc within a 10-second count)

offensive players line up in a vertical formation and each player makes a cut toward either side of the stack in an attempt to lose a defender

Throwing the Frisbee

• 4 common throws– Backhand: Traditional throw, released

with the back of your hand to your target

– Overhand: Similar to backhand, but the frisbee is inverted

– Chicken Wing: Has a hitch in the throw and frisbee is thrown with thumb
