Company history

•Founded in 1996 by Jochim Aerts.

•In a few years Ridley became the number 1 brand in Benelux.

•First professional team signed in 1997, Spar.

•First full carbon road frame introduced in 1999.

•Tom Boonen won the U23 Belgian Championship on a Ridley.

Product design

Initial stage: Design concept to 3D design for tube shape analysis.

Stage 2: Computer simulations test for stiffness, strength and compliance.

Stage 3: Prototypes are produced and continually tested by our teams with our Partner Development Program . These prototypes also undergo rigorous machine testing for stiffness, strength and compliance.

•Ridley patented technology.

•R-Flow acts like a vacuum by drawing turbulent air through the jet foils whilst wheels are spinning.

•New foam molding technology creates sharp foil edges for smooth airflow.

•Reduction of drag by 7.5%

          N

1 Ridley R-Flow fork closed standing   19.1 0.112

2 Ridley R-Flow fork closed turning   21.2 0.123

In the first test we closed the opening between the split blades with tape on both sides

3 Ridley R-Flow fork open standing   19.4 0.112

4 Ridley R-Flow fork open turning   19.9 0.117

In this test we used the fork as it should be so with the open blades

5 Standard aero fork na standing   18.8 0.111

6 Standard aero fork na turning   21.5 0.127

This fork performed the best of the 10 forks we tested in the wind tunnel

•When the R-Flow vents are open, drag is reduced immediately.

•Drag decreases further, the faster the wheels spin when compared to a standard fork.

•R-Flow had a minimum of 7.5% less drag compared to the other forks we tested.

Page 11: Ridley

Oil mapping in the windtunnel:

•Identifies areas of turbulent air and laminar flow.

•Through this we could resculpt the frame in problem sections.

•For areas that we could not alter, we developed R-Surface.

Page 12: Ridley

•R-Surface is a patent pending technology that is exclusive to Ridley and is a first for bike frames.

•Air flow normally breaks away from the rear of an airfoil, creating more drag.

•The textured surface excites surrounding air and re-establishes the laminar flow towards the rear of the airfoil.

•Airplane wings and the dimpled surface on a golf ball work on the same principle.

•Overall drag reduced by 4%.

Aero: Fusing together the innovations from our strength and stiffness to weight ranges in combination with the natural shape of the water droplet. Utilizing the very natural shape of the water droplet has given us the opportunity to push the boundaries of aero frame technology.

Stiffness to weight: Maintains the Ridley standard for stiffness whilst offering a lower frame weight. Since form follows function, nature tells us that the circle is the strongest shape while using the least material.

Strength: Our core values are to provide superior levels of stiffness, stability and handling. Keeping formfollows function in mind; we came to the conclusion that the diamond shape was the best design for this range. Ridley’s Sharp Edge Design was born.
