Algeria

Players who have won caps whilst at Charlton:

Madjid BOUGHERRA 7, (2 goals). Went on to represent Algeria in the World Cup Finals in South Africa 2010.

Argentina

Frederico BESONNE LUNA with 13 loan appearances for the Addicks, was born in Córdoba, Argentina. Rarely has a career seen such a downward trajectory, starting out at Barcelona and finishing up on loan at Millwall.

Buenos Aires born Juan Manuel COBIÁN came to Charlton in 1999-2000, he played in a handful of pre-season friendlies before moving on to Aberdeen.

Austria

Thurrock born striker Andy HUNT was qualified to play for Austria through his grandparents. In 2000 he was, according to a spokesman from the Austrian FA, "being watched in every other game". Otto Baric was tipped to call him up for a World Cup qualifier against Liechtenstein in October that year, but it never happened. Sadly, a few months later our top-scorer announced his retirement from football due to post-viral fatigue syndrome.

Andy PETTERSON played 83 matches between the sticks for Charlton. He was born in Fremantle and had as a youngster represented the Aussie U20s on three occasions.

Anıl KOÇ was born in Saint-Josse-ten-Noode and has represented Belgium at U16 level.

Steve BARBÉ watched the Tranmere, QPR and Bolton matches from the comfort of the subs bench in 1999-2000 whilst on loan from Molenbeek.

Club owner Roland DUCHÂTELET was born in Merksem and has a few minor business interests in Belgium.

Costa Rica

In early August 2006, Christian BOLAÑOS NAVARRO played a couple of pre-season friendlies for Charlton against Welling and New Zealand. A few days later it was announced that we had signed him. He never played a competitive match though as the club couldn't get a work permit. The winger was born in Hatillo de San José and has to date made 45 appearances for Costa Rica scoring two goals.

Cyprus

Harlow born Alexander "Alex" Michael STAVRINOU represented Cyprus at U17 level. He was also approached about representing their U21s but turned down the opportunity preferring to concentrate on his Charlton career.

Claus JENSEN, 31 (5 goals) Represented Denmark in the 2002 World Cup Finals in Korea/Japan

Dennis ROMMEDAHL, 22 (6 goals)

Others:

Probably the greatest footballer ever to play for Charlton, Allan SIMONSEN scored 20 goals in 55 appearances for Denmark either side of his Charlton Career. Represented them at Mexico '86.

Former Charlton keeper Stephan ANDERSEN has played 24 times for Denmark.

Ishøj born Martin CHRISTIANSEN cost Charlton £ 250,000 in 2007, but didn't play competitively for the first team. He has represented Denmark at U18, U19, U20 & U21 levels.

When Johnny ØSTERGAARD and Viggo Lund JACOBSEN joined Charlton in 1979 they became the first Danish players to be transferred directly to an English league club.

Other Charlton players associated with England:

Sam BARTRAM won three wartime caps for England, but because of some bureaucratic mumbo-jumbo these do not count as full caps. Also represented The FA on tours of Australia and South Africa.

Stuart LEARY represented England at U23 level, but was prevented in getting any full caps because of a change in the rules about eligibility.

Before joining Charlton, John BARNES made 79 appearances for England scoring 11 goals, including playing in the Mexico '86 and Italy '90 World Cup Finals.

Danny MILLS represented England in the 2002 World Cup Finals in Korea/Japan in between his two stints at Charlton.

Jermain DEFOE Scored 19 goals in 55 England appearances after showing his loyalty to Charlton.

Carl Jenkinson played for one match England U17s whilst at Charlton, four times for the U21s and one full appearance after leaving.

John HEWIE played baseball for England. Micky Stewart and former director, Colin Cowdrey, represented the country at Cricket.

Dorian DERVITE VAUSSOUE, was born in Lille and has represented France at U16, U17, U18, U19 and U21 levels.

Goalkeeper Yohann THURAM-ULIEN was born in Courcouronnes, he has represented France at U20 and U21 levels and is a cousin of the French defender with 142 caps, Ruddy 'Lilian Thuram'-Ulien.

Loïc NEGO was born in Paris and has represented France at all levels from U16 to U20.

Yann Alain KERMORGANT, Born in Vannes, France. Played one representative match for Brittany.

Salim KERKAR, born in Givors in the Rhône-Alpes region.

Frank BURTON was wounded on six occasions during WWI and was awarded the Medaille Militaire and the Croix de Guerre by the French. He went on to make 107 appearances for the Addicks.

Although born in Kilburn, Kenny ACHAMPONG was of Ghanian descent. He was called up for the national team once, but didn't play. On leaving Leyton Orient in 1993, he moved to Ghana.

Emmanuel FRIMPONG was born in Kumasi, Ghana. The celebrity rapper-cum-milliner pretended to play for Charlton in 2012 and made one appearance for his country the following year.

Eddie FIRMANI was the subject of the biggest transfer in Football League history when he moved from Charlton to Sampadoria for £35K+. He won three full caps for Italy between his three stints at Charlton.

Controversial Roman, Paolo DiCANIO made 9 appearances for Italy's U21 side before playing for Charlton. He might have represented them at full international level if he wasn't regarded as a loose canon.

Luciano MASIELLO played eight times for the Addicks scoring once. He was born in Benvento near Naples.

Jerrel "Jimmy Floyd" Hasselbaink, scored 9 in 23 for the Dutch national side before his weight irreparably damaged the drains underneath The Valley pitch.

Gerrit "Gerry" Peter KEIZER - born in Holland. One full international for the Dutch, believed to be before he played for Charlton. Afterwards he was fined 30,000 Guilders and sentenced to six months in jail for smuggling British banknotes into Holland. Later became a greengrocer in Amsterdam.

Our current striker Reza GHOOCHANNEJHAD moved to Holland when he was eight years old, and reportedly holds a Dutch passport. He represented the Netherlands at U16, U17, U18 and U19 levels.

Soulemaine DIAWARA, born in Gabau Senegal. 48 appearances for Senegal but none whilst at Charlton. This is thought to be as a result of a bust up he had with then Senegal boss Henryk Kasperczak after Diawara was caught out and about in Paris when he should have been preparing for an international, but it can't have been helped by his position in a struggling Charlton side.

Amady FAYE - 31 appearances for Senegal before joining Charlton. Unsurprisingly, none afterwards.

Mapidima Lesetja "Bally" SMART made seven appearances for South Africa U20 and one ill-fated appearance for the Addicks.

Eddie and Peter FIRMANI and Ronald OOSTHUIZEN were born in Cape Town.

Stuart Edward LEARY was born in Cape Town. After playing for Charlton he coached both football and cricket in his native country. Died tragically on Table Mountain.

Miguel Ángel LLERA GARZÓN. Big Mig, as his friends probably don't call him, was born in Castilleja de la Cuesta, near Seville.

Mikel ALONSO OLANO was born in Tolosa, he is the big brother of famous Spanish international Xabi Alonso. Mikel ended his career conceding a penalty in his only match for Charlton, an awful 3-0 defeat to Brentford.

First team newcomer Diego POYET was born in Zaragoza.

Allan SIMONSEN won the Cup Winners Cup playing for Barcelona in 1982.

Tavelsjö born Lars Jesper BLOMQVIST made 30 appearances for Sweden before he made three for The Addicks.
