How To Play Texas Hold’em• Standard 52 card deck, every player gets 2 cards to start

(pocket cards).• Round of betting occurs or players drop out (fold) before cards

are laid down (preflop betting). • Dealer gets rid of a card (burn card) to prevent cheating then

places 3 cards (the flop) on the table. • Players try to make a combination with their cards and the

cards on the table then place bets again or fold if they wish.• Dealer gets rid of another burn card and lays down 1 card (the

turn).• Players try to make a combination and place bets again or fold

if they wish.• Dealer gets rid of another burn card and lays down the final

card (the river). • Players make their final bets or fold (the showdown). • If two or more players are in after the showdown then the

players reveal their cards to see who wins the money (the pot), the best hand wins!– Sometimes players can tie and split the pot.

http://jse.sagepub.com.jerome.stjohns.edu:81/content/15/1/31.full.pdf+html

In determining the legality of online poker—a multibillion dollar industry—courts have relied heavily on the issue of whether or not poker is a game of skill. Using newly available data, the authors analyze that question by examining the performance in the 2010 World Series of Poker of a group of poker players identified as being highly skilled prior to the start of the events.
