Kirill Andreevich Mikhailov
Kirill Andreevich Mikhailov is a Russian cross-country skier, biathlete and four
time Paralympic Champion. He was born on
April 2, 1983, Kairakovo Bashkortostan.
He started ski racing when he was a child. His first coach was Baimetov Valentin
Mihailov. Kirill was an active participant of all ski activities at school and in the district. He was a
champion of Bashkiria in ski
racing in 1997 and 1998.
In 1999, the life of promising athlete was changed: his
motorcycle was hit by a car and that’s why he was being treated during four years. It seemed that his career was
over but his love and devotion to the sport helped him. Kirill started to win the
Republican, and later the Russian competitions. In
2005, Kirill Mikhaylov became the Master of
Sports in skiing. In the same year he became a member
of the Russian National Paralympic Team.
He was trained under the guidance of experienced coaches Nadejda Gumerova and
Rostislav Pavlov with whom he took part in the 2005 World Cup Biathlon and ski racing in Italy in December, then he won 3 medals in Norway in 2006, and became the winner of the 2005
World Cup. He competed in cross-country skiing at the 2006 Winter Paralympics. He took the gold in the men’s 20 km and the bronze in
the men’s 10 km, standing. He placed 5th in the men’s relay and 4th in the men’s km,
standing.
He competed at the 2010 Winter Paralympic
Winter Games in Vancouver in cross-country skiing and biathlon . In cross-
country skiing, he took the gold in the men’s
relay and in the 20 km, standing. He took the
silver in the 1 km sprint and the 10 km,
standing. In biathlon, he took the gold medal in themen’s 3 km pursuit, standing. He placed 4th
in the 12.5 km individual, standing.
Kirill Mikhailov is a loving
husband and a father, He has got two sons
Daniil and Kornil.
He has got such awards as “Order for Services to the
Fatherland”, second degree, “Order for Services to the Fatherland”, fourth degree, “Order of Salavat
Yulaev” "Outstanding Athlete of Bashkortostan"
and "Honourable Master of Sports."
