Sportsmanship

Sportsmanship is the act of playing sports in a fair way, with honor and integrity, and with respect to all involved.

Owners

Owners should maintain ethical behavior when managing their team or organization, striving for success the right way. This includes trying to ensure that the team they own is operating with sportsmanship and following rules.

Coaches

While at the upper levels of sports, coaching is a tough profession that requires success to keep your job, coaches can be easily tempted to do wrong things to win. However, it is important for coaches to win with sportsmanship to be truly good and successful coaches.

Health and Safety

I think that health and safety should be the most important thing in sports. Sports leagues must do everything possible to make their sport as safe as possible, and be willing to review anything to make it safer. Teams must also make sure that medical professionals are always ready to treat any injury. More importantly, I think athletes must be treated for what's best for them and their future and not necessarily the team's.

Health and Safety

This is a video that shows what needs to be stopped in professional sports. Players' health needs to be

valued over winning.

Athletes and Community

Athletes should maintain positive sportsmanship at all times in order to respect themselves, their opponents, and the sport itself. Athletes who cheat or do anything unethical should be punished when it's called for. Athletes should also use their status and the spotlight they have to do good in the community around them. While not necessary, this is something very positive and is good for all the young kids that look up to these athletes, and it also benefits those in the community.

Fan Behavior

Fans in sports should continue to have incredible passion for their teams, while keeping it from become personal. It must never get to the level of an actual fight, violence, or threats between two people. Fans are an important part of sports and teams, and they must continue to cheer responsibly with ethics!

Future of SportsmanshipI think sportsmanship in professional sports will continue to decrease in time, unfortunately. I believe this because of all of the money and pressure to win, this often leads people to take shortcuts to achieve this success. Moreover, any game you watch you notice many examples of bad sportsmanship. I just think in professional sports, sportsmanship isn't even necessarily needed as the athletes are paid to try to defeat the opponent. At the end of the day I would like to be wrong, however sportsmanship seems to be fading away in professional sports more so than all around.

I chose this photograph because it shows a fight, which is obviously unsportsmanlike, and also shows fans in the background cheering it on which too is unsportsmanlike. I just think this

photograph exemplifies how nowadays the determination and hunger to win often leads to examples of poor sportsmanship, and they aren't always disliked by fans as well.
