What is a Inuksuit?

A Inuksuit is a stone landmark built by humans. It was used by the Inuit peoples of the Arctic.

What was the purpose?

The Inuksuit was used as a marker for

travel routes, fishing

places, camps, and hunting grounds.

Where are they found?

These structures are found from Alaska, North Canada, all the way to Greenland.

How they were used?

• Skilled Inuit hunters built Inuksuit to confuse caribou into thinking that they were being chased by many hunters. The Inuksuit were placed strategically on the ground to capture the caribou.

Where did the name come from?

The word Inuksuit means “ Human being figures”.
