•Ice hockey was first recorded as being played in the early 1800’s

•They’re not positive where hockey came from because there is many stories, but Windsor, Nova Scotia or Kingston could be the birthplace of ice hockey in Canada

History of Ice Hockey

Modern Hockey•Modern hockey started out in Montreal

•On March 3, 1875, the first indoor hockey game was played at Montreal’s Victoria Skating Rink

•In 1877 some McGill students made up seven ice hockey rules and enforced them

•Winnipeg hockey players introduced cricket pads, which helped protect the goaltenders legs and the scoop shot (wrist shot)

•The Dominion Hockey Challenge Cup (later known as Stanley Cup) was first awarded to Montreal in 1893

How to Play Hockey•It is played in a hockey rink

•The object of the game is to score on the other teams net and get more goals then the other team

•There is 5 people on the rink and a goalie, 2 defenseman, 1 center and 2 wings

•You use a stick to shoot the puck at the net

•You wear lots of equipment so you are not hurt from the puck or others surrounding you

•There are referees that call penalties and goals

•There are linesmen that call icing and offside

•We have won 15 gold medals
