Golfo Dulce comes to life!Open Water Swim Race 2015
This past weekend 30 swimmers entered the waters for the first time ever organized race traversing the length of Golfo Dulce.
On Sunday, open-water swimmers raced in the 14-kilometer route and took as
long as 6 hours.
The Cruce Golfo Dulce, is the 5th and final leg of Costa Rica’s open-water swim season and also part of the World Open Water Swimming Series.
The winner for the 14 km route was Christopher Lanuza Segura. The No.1-ranked long-distance swimmer in the country.Time: 2:57:57.The 2nd-place was Angélica Astorga reached the sand 15 minutes later than Christoper. After she got out of the sea, she said jellyfish had been stinging her legs, chest, and face through the first few kilometers.
From the 30 swimmers only one swimmer didn´t finish, José Manuel Culell, who
became the first known person to swim across Golfo Dulce in July. It took Cullell 4
hours and 50 minutes to cross the gulf to Puerto Jiménez this first time.
