Callier VS James
YOUNG BASKETBALL STAR BRINGS CROWD TO YSU
By Jaymin Patel, The Jambar. 2/19/02
…hailed as the next Michael Jordan. He's only a junior in high school, but many speculate
LeBron James of Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary's may go straight to the NBA…
…the feature of the day, Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary's vs. George Junior Republic High School.
Beeghly Stadium was packed with an estimated 7,000 people. Tickets to the game were sold out
since the day they went on sale…
This was no regular high school game, but rather seemed to be as entertaining as an NBA All Star Game.
James delivered a spectacular windmill dunk in the first quarter. It was followed by another strong
delivery, which had the backboard shaking. These theatrics were answered by the extraordinary reverse
dunk by Benson Callier, George Junior forward.
The lead man match up was also very heated. Callier, of the Tigers, averaging 17.2 points, 9.6 rebounds
and 2.6 steals per game, ended the game scoring 14 points, eight rebounds and three steals along with a
massive block against the monstrous James.
As James drove in to score, Callier stepped up and blocked James's shot, sending him to
the floor. James' mother was out on the court, but James quickly sent her away.
…But the George Jr. Tigers outscored the Irish 8-7 in overtime and
came out triumphant. When asked how he felt about blocking the
No. 1 player in the nation, Callier, who was named player of the
game, responded, "I was dreaming of that moment all night."

’Devils ground ’Rockets
By the Standard Staff- 11/17/2007
If opening night was any indication, the Butte
Daredevils’ season should be full of crowd-
pleasing theatrics.
Key in the victory though, was the Daredevils’
youth and relentlessness. High-flying rookie
Benson Callier led the ’Devils with 21 points and
13 rebounds. He also brought Butte fans to their
feet with four powerful slams.
“I feel like I’ve been here before,” Callier said. “It was very
comfortable.”
Daredevils repeat against Krunk
by Bruce Sayler - 12/23/2007
…the springy 6-6 Callier did sport a couple of
more acrobatic dunks for the crowd’s
approval. One was a hard, two-handed jam,
and another was a reverse two-handed
slammer behind his neck.
’Devils deny Cavalry
By Bruce Sayler - 12/30/2007 The highlight move of the night was probably a
Callier dunk that came on a fast break when
Bradley bounced a pass high off the floor as
the rookie soared toward the basket. It pleased
the crowd very much.
“Benson Callie ready for Gothia Basketball”
“Now it was time to add more show to the Gothia Basketball, he is an athletic
dunkmaskin and his name is Benson Callie.”
“Benson become an important part of the puzzle. Han är en komplett spelare
som kan dunka, göra poäng och även spela försvar. He is a complete player
who can thump, making points, and also play defense.”
NOW PLAYING IN GOTHENSBURG:
“THE BENSON CALLIE SHOW”
2- Time ABA Champs sign Benson Callier with the transition to the PBL
Frost Heaves Dispatch Sasquatch by Our Sports Central
…Vermont led 64-53 at halftime and began the third quarter on a 14-5 run,
sparked by Benson Callier. The 6'6" shooting guard drained 40 points on 19-23
shooting from the floor setting the Frost Heaves single-game scoring record
previously held by Issa Konare.
Benson Callier wasted no time making his mark in the Vermont
Frost Heaves record book. He also wasted no time in passing off
the credit.
"Tomorrow it could be somebody else, so I can't take credit for a
point tonight," Callier said. "My teammates did a great job of finding
me, and it was a blessing. Tonight was just one of those nights. I
can't take credit for one bucket."
Benson Callier hit ten
straight points in the fourth
on his way to a game high
21, and John Williams hit a
running eight footer with 28
seconds to go as Vermont
defeats Halifax 100-98. Vermont was
lead in scoring by
Benson Callier
with 31 points in
Champlain Cup
series.
"Today we started to build our identity, and that is
to come in and play hard every possession," said
Vermont's leading scorer, forward Benson Callier. "I
feel we've done a good job of that all year long,
but coach is challenging us to really get scrappy
out there. To win we have to compete and play
hard every possession."
For Vermont, Williams finished with
a game high 26; Benson Callier
had a double double with 21
points and ten boards. For
Manchester, Tommy Mitchell had
25 to lead the Millrats.
Down by 13 two-thirds of the way through
the first quarter, the Vermont Frost Heaves
rallied behind a 16-point second-quarter
effort by Benson Callier and held Quebec
City to just 20 percent shooting in that
quarter en route to a 118-98 Premier
Basketball League win over the Kebekwa.
The Vermont Frost Heaves clinched a wild-card playoff spot
Sunday afternoon after defeating the Buffalo Stampede, 120-94,
at the Barre Auditorium.
Benson Callier racked up 21 points and five rebounds as the Frost
Heaves built a 59-45 halftime lead. Brian Graves contributed 19
points, eight assists and four rebounds.
THE GAME ONLY GETS BETTER WITH TIME…
It’s true; the game only gets better with time. Benson’s season with PBL’s
Vermont Frostheaves has proved to be his best yet. Voted Most Valuable
Player by Vermont fans, leading the team in scoring with an average of 16.4
points per game; including best in scoring in 10 league games—one
including a 40-point stampede in the team’s first league game of the season
In addition, the Premiere Basketball League has named him to the All-
League Second Team (the only player from this year’s Frostheaves to be
selected).
