• The movie “42 : THE TRUE STORY OF AN

AMERICAN LEGEND” by Brian Helgeland, shows the life of Jackie Robinson, who was the first African American to play in the MLB.

Thesis

• Jackie Robinson's life and struggles with segregation and his impact in baseball history.

Segregation in Baseball

• Baseball color line was the unwritten policy that rejected black men in the MLB. As a result, the Negro National Leagues was created.

• In 1947, the Brooklyn Dodgers manager, Branch Rickey tried to change baseball by adding Jackie Robinson into his team.

• Since he was the first African American to play in the MLB he was subjected to mistreatment of those who opposed the integration.

• However, he continued with his job as the new player for the Brooklyn Dodgers.

Robinson opened the door to many other black players to join the MLB, something that put an end to segregation in baseball.

Today is a different story. Every team in the Major Leagues Baseball is compose of players from different race or ethnic group.

The film 42 has received good reviews by critics since the movie made a nice job displaying the life and struggles of

the man who made a change in baseball and in history as well.
