Introduction

In December of 2014, the DC Council gave final approval to build a soccer stadium in Washington’s Buzzard Point neighborhood. The District of Columbia Soccer Stadium Act of 2014 was more than a decade in the making, and will finally offer DC United a permanent place to host sporting events and train.

In addition to the act is a Community Benefits Agreement, which signifies the organization’s commitment to the neighborhoods surrounding the stadium. The venue is expected to be completed in 2017 and accommodate as many as 25,000 fans.

A four-time Major League Soccer Cup winner, DC United has garnered numerous accolades since its inception in 1996.

The franchise, which currently plays home matches at Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium, achieved the Major League Supporters Shield in 1997, 1999, 2006, and 2007.
