THE DREAM A BIKE PARK For All Ages

A place for everybody from toddlers to competitive riders to hone their skills, to learn new things, and to share their stoke. A cross-generational facility designed and built to serve the needs of families, recreational programmers, event organizers and riders from all over South Western Ontario. Features to include:

Grom Track – The Perfect Place for Toddlers to Learn their First Bike Skills X Country Sprint Loop -- Novice and Advanced Cross Country Features packed into a compact loop Destination Pump Tracks – For Beginner and Expert Riders alike. Skills / Jump Park -- Designed to allow riders to learn technical skills in a safe and controlled environment. UCI Sanctioned BMX Track – Purpose designed to host regular league races as well as national level events

THE WHY Because riding bikes is a blast. It’s healthy. It brings families together. A bike park is a safe place to learn new skills. It provides alternative recreational and programming opportunities. It attracts riders and events to the community. It supports local business. And EVERYBODY does it!

THE WHO

We’re fortunate. The project has attracted exceptional sponsors, advisors and supporters:

Lead Sponsor – YMCA Stratford Lead Planning Consultant – The International Mountain Bike Association

In addition, the Steering Committee is stuffed with experienced fund developers, planners, community leaders and well respected business professionals.

THE WHEN

Autumn 2012 Enthusiasm is high. In order to keep the volunteer base engaged, we ‘re driving towards an early completion of Phase I. Pursuant to site planning and city approvals, this means we will be cash, contribution and volunteer ready to start digging this fall.

Phase One X Country Sprint Loops and Pump Tracks Fall 2012 Phase Two Skills Park Fall 2013 Phase Three UCI BMX Track Spring 2015

THE PLAN To satisfy our partners, our funders, the city, and our community we are developing a plan that anticipates and answers the following questions:

Governance Structure – Who’s in charge and do they inspire confidence that this will get done? Long Term Vision – What does this look like and is it in line with community objectives? Partnership Structure – Who is formally affiliated? At what level? For how long? Site and Facility Plans – Are they comprehensive? Acceptable to the city? Sustainable? Construction Plans – Are they complete? Fundable? Supported by local resources? Operation Plan – What will it take to maintain the facility? To program it? To manage it? Risk Management Plan – Insurance? Signage? Emergency Access? Community Support – Is there community support? At what level? How deep? Financial Requirements – What are the dollars? For what components? For how long? Funding Plan – Who finds it? Where does it come from? When are the bucks needed?

Project Plan – What are the milestones? What’s the work-back? Who does what? Anticipated Issues – Where have other groups and cities stumbled? What are the unknowns?

The ask

Phase I requires approximately 5 acres and approval from the city to pull out the shovels and start digging. Ultimately, the project will cost $500,000, 50% of which will come from donated services and materials, 25% from cash donations, and 25% from granting organizations.

To get to this end we will need:

Strong Partners Site and Feature Sponsors Financial Support from Individuals, Business and Not-for-Profit Organizations Donations of Material and Labour
