In his 28 seasons, he coached the Rams to more than 500 career victories and guided the team through the transition to NCAA Division II play in 1964. While ASU’s coach, George was named conference coach of the year 12 times and national coach of the year in 1957 after guiding the Rams to the NJCAA National Championship. In his entire ASU career, George’s teams posted a record of 512-274. He also served as ASU’s Athletic Director from 1968 until his retirement from the university in 1986. George was inducted into the LSC Hall of Honor in 1996.

Ed Messbarger1978-1998267-286 (.483)

A legend in the coaching profession, Ed Messbarger guided the Rams for 20 seasons. At his retirement, Messbarger, who has a career coaching record of 665-515, ranked third in Division II in career wins and was second in all-time coaching appearances among coaches at any level of play. HONOR ROLL

ED WHEELER1993 NCAA Division II All-American

Ed Wheeler earned four All-America certifi cates during his two seasons of play at Angelo State. Wheeler was an honorable mention All-America selection by Don Hansen’s Basketball Gazette in 1992-93, after earning unanimous fi rst team All-LSC honors and All-South Central Region laurels. As a senior with the Rams, Wheeler earned fi rst team All-America honors from Bas-ketball Times and Division II Bulletin in addition to second team honors from Basketball Gazette. Wheeler was the MVP of the Lone Star Conference and received fi rst-team All-South Central region honors after averaging 25.3 points per game. He fi nished his two-year career ranked fourth in career scoring, fi fth in rebounding and second in blocked shots.

LAMARSHALL CORBETT2010 NCAA Division II All-American

LaMarshall Corbett became the second player in Angelo State history to earn All-American status as he was named to the Daktronics All-America Second Team following the 2009-10 campaign. Corbett was the leading scorer in the LSC and South Central region averaging 23.4 points per game. He fi nished second in the region in free-throw percentage, converting 90.6 percent of his attempts, and three-point percentage as he connected on 47.6 percent of his attempts from beyond the arc. Corbett’s 656 points that season was the third-highest total in school history and his free-throw percentage marked only the second time ever that a Ram had converted over 90 percent of his attempts.

KENNY WILLIAMS2014 NCAA Division II All-South Central

The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) honored Angelo State senior Kenny Williams by naming him to the 2014 South Central First Team following a season where he recorded 10 double-doubles and led the Lone Star Conference in scoring. Williams, a 6-foot-7 forward from St. Louis, was one of 88 Divi-sion II players selected by member coaches of the NABC after he scored in double digits in 26 of 28 games played and fi nished with a league-leading 17.2 points per game. He has also been named to the Daktronics All-South Central fi rst team and to the Lone Star Conference fi rst team. In his fi rst, and only, season at ASU after transferring from McMurry, he also earned the LSC Newcomer of the Year honor after fi nishing the regular season as its scoring leader and second in rebounding with 8.0 rebounds per game.
