LOGO AND BRANDING

The logo and theme for the 2015 Barangay Palaro was adopted from the 2015 Palarong Pambansa held at Davao del Norte and the official logo of the 2015 Palarong Pambansa was inspired from the games' theme "Sports: Breaking Borders, Building Peace.“

It depicts the dominant image of an artistic dove, a universal symbol for peace, carrying with it an olive branch with 7 leaves representing the 7 Puroks of Barangay Gubatan. Three flaming tails emerge from the dove which stands for the diversity of the tri-peoples (Lumads or indigenous people, Muslims, and Christians) who participate in the Barangay Palaro and also appears the torch which represents light. It is emblazoned with an elaborate okir motif (a traditional artistic motif used by the Islamic tribes), a fish (standing for Christianity), and beadworks of the lumads and the colors of the dove are taken from the Philippine flag.

Literally underscoring the dove is a banana leaf with the logo of Barangay Gubatan," a very obvious representation of the Barangay whose chief agricultural produce is the banana.

3 DOMAINS OF LEARNINGThe committee identified three domains of educational activities or learning (Bloom, et al. 1956):

Page 9: 2016 Barangay Palaro Mechanics

Bloom's Taxonomy was created in 1956 under the leadership of educational psychologist Dr Benjamin Bloom in order to promote higher forms of thinking in education, such as analyzing and evaluating concepts, processes, procedures, and principles, rather than just remembering facts (rote learning). It is most often used when designing educational, training, and learning processes.

The Three Domains of Learning

•Cognitive: mental skills (knowledge)

•Affective: growth in feelings or emotional areas (attitude or self)

•Psychomotor: manual or physical skills (skills)

“the goals of the learning process.”

CHORALE READING

Mechanics and Rules of the ContestChoral reading is reading aloud in unison with a whole class or group of students. Choral reading helps build students' fluency, self-confidence, and motivation. Because students are reading aloud together, students who may ordinarily feel self-conscious or nervous about reading aloud have built-in support.

Choral Reading Variations

Refrain: One student reads most of the text and the whole group chimes in to read key segments chorally. Robert Munsch's Love You Forever is a good example of refrain. Antiphonal Reading: Divide the class into groups and assign a section of a text to each group. They read parts alternately. Call-and-Response: Teacher or student reads a line or two of a text and the rest of the class responds by repeating the lines. Cumulative Choral Reading: An individual or small group reads one line or section of a passage. Another reader or group chimes in for the next line, and a few more are included for the lines that follow. Before the end of the text is reached, the entire class should be reading. Line-a-Child: Each child is given a line to read and reads at the appropriate time. Unison: The entire class reads together, placing emphasis at predetermined spots throughout. Group Performance: Groups are assigned or select text to read aloud to the class. The group is encouraged to vary pitch, volume, duration, and stress as appropriate to the text. They may also assign different parts--with partners reading some lines and the whole group reading other lines. As they practice these variations, they are repeating their reading several times. Each group then presents its reading to a selected audience

Bible DrillBible Drill is an exciting way for the participants of 2016 Barangay Palaro to learn to use their Bibles to meet the challenges of life. It involves competition, but that is not what Bible Drill is all about. If participants can locate a verse quickly, learn to answer a question using Scripture, become familiar enough with key verses that they can locate them from a few words — those participants are winners!

LITERARY COMPETITIONS(Academics)

Participants can quickly become focused on winning the drill. It is important for the facilitators to remind them of the more profound goal — to learn to use the Book of Life to make a difference for today and tomorrow.

Bible Drill is a church event for youth and while preparing for the drill, participants develop skills in using their Bibles — locating books and verses, memorizing passages, and locating passages dealing with doctrinal and ethical concerns.

Working together to prepare for the drill, participants increases their love for the Bible; its words and phrases become a part of them. Youth also gain poise and confidence as they respond to drill calls with speed and accuracy.

Bible DrillLITERARY COMPETITIONS

(Academics)Judging the Drill Three judges plus a timekeeper are needed. Enlist the judges and timekeeper at least one week prior to the training session. Participants in all drills should be identified by numbers that are visible to the leader and the judges. Refer to the drillers by the numbers they are wearing, not by name. RESPONSIBILITIES OF REGULAR JUDGES Regular Judges mark only mistakes. Place the number of the mistake (1-5) in the corresponding box on the score sheet beside the call number and under the participant number for each driller who makes a mistake. (All others will receive points for the call.) The vertical numbers on the score sheet are the call numbers and the horizontal numbers are participant identification numbers. Score each participant as an individual. If two mistakes in one call are made, deduct point TIMEKEEPERThe timekeeper will call “Time” twelve seconds after the leader gives the command “Start.” The timekeeper needs a stopwatch to accurately call time.

CHAIRMAN OF THE JUDGES One of the four judges will have the additional responsibility of serving as chairman and share results and mistakes with participants. Judges should try to give participants the benefit of any doubt. DRILL CALLERThe drill caller is responsible for conducting the drill and checking the accuracy of answers. Be prepared to handle the unexpected. If some distraction occurs when the call is being given causing a participant to make a mistake in responding, instruct the judges to disregard that call and give an alternate call.

Lector is Latin for one who reads, whether aloud or not.

A religious reader is sometimes referred to as a lector. The lector proclaims the Scripture readings used in the Liturgy of the Word from the official, liturgical book(lectionary). The Roman Catholic Church has a rite by which it formally institutes men who may or may not be studying for the priesthood and diaconate as lectors (Canon Law 230.1).

Lectors have a critical role in the celebration of the Mass. Since the Lector proclaims not just any word, but the Word of God, it is essential that they develop the skills required to communicate God’s message competently.

The ministry of lector calls for a person to grow in a warm and loving knowledge of Scripture, the living Word of God. He or she is invited to enter into a relationship with a Word that is creative, powerful and effective.

The call to be a Lector is something that demands preparation. No one should get up to read to the community gathered for worship without this preparation. In becoming a Lector, you are accepting the responsibility to do your best, to practice, to make frequent self-evaluations and to continually look for ways to improve your ability to communicate the Word of God clearly to the congregation.

As a Lector you are entrusted with some of the most wonderful stories to come down through the ages, and it is through these stories that God continues to speak. These are stories about the rainbow that sealed God’s covenant with Noah; about the bush whose flames revealed a God on fire with love for His people; about the rib that became a woman.

As a Lector you must understand each story simply as a story. The ministry of a lector is a wonderful work, and an extremely rewarding ministry. Through your own sacrifice of time, effort, and preparation, God’s living Word continues to be proclaimed to all of his people; the young, the old, the troubled, the hopeless, the happy and to those in need of comfort. To be a lector is to be given an opportunity for your own personal growth in Jesus Christ.

We welcome all newcomers to our ministry. May the Lord be in your heart and on your lips that you may worthily proclaim His Holy Word.

LITERARY COMPETITIONS(Academics)

CRITERIA FOR JUDGEMENT PRESENCE – 15 POINTSCharisma, Swagger, Character... having a bigger personality than your opponent has a subconcious affect on the audience... and the judges DELIVERY AND STORYTELLING – 40 POINTSYou could write the dopest bar we've ever heard, but if you don't say it with the right conviction, the line won't hit.Not 100% of the time it has to be personal and true reality( some battles more so than others, mainly when theres real beef etc).i mean look at iron solomon the majority of everything he said isnt some real but he was able to create some hillarious/vivid images/ while displaying his craft of course many others do that,Iron just came to mind first. RELEVANCE – 15 POINTSA punchline that actually applies to your opponent beats a generic mom/gay joke, or idol threats every time. Relevant set-ups'll gain you some extra points as well. PERSONALS - 10 POINTS Hurtful truths cut deep, and can be the most damaging weapon in a battle if done right.

CRITERIA FOR JUDGEMENT FLIPS - 15 POINTS Whether prepared in advance due to predictable angles, or off the dome, rebuttles score big in the eyes of the judges. There IS a such thing as a shitty flip though, and rappers shant be rewarded for them. FREESTYLE – 10 POINTSProving you can kill it on the spot by referencing the then and now is a valuable asset. No extra credit for crap free's though, they have to be good. CROWD CONTROL – 25 POINTSKnowing how to draw big reactions from the audience is probably the biggest way to sway the judges, as it's hard to not feel like guy who got the bigger cheers, laughs and ooh's wasn't the winner. Judges should watch out for cheap pops due to home town advantage, shock value tactics, and pop culture catch phrases & slogans. BAR STRUCTURE – 15 POINTSJust because a battle isn't done over a beat, doesn't mean you can just mash as many words and syllables you need to get your point across into a line. Rhythm is still an important factor, and some rappers are just sloppy with it.

The complexity of your rhyme schemes shows that more effort went into your preparation, and it doesn't go un-noticed. WIT, CREATIVENESS & ORIGINALITY – 30 POINTSVery few people find it hard to appreciate genuinely clever punchlines. You have to be creative and use original stuff otherwise you lose points. You cant switch up the same standard formula and expect to get a pat on the back "almost" everyone that is top tier is as original as you can get.TOTAL ......................... 200 POINTS

XI. BUDOTS COMPETITION

DEFINITION: "BUDOTS" came from the word "TABUDOTS"- meaning, a person(s) dancing in crazy moves or funny dance steps and came "BUDOTS" meaning DANCE...SAYAW.

If the US taught us “how to doggie” and South Korea has “Gangnam Style”, The Davaoeños have “Budots”. The term budots is the slang for “tambay” which means people with no jobs or permanent jobs. They have more free time in their hands so to speak. The dance was branded “Budots” because the folks who started it are “tambays” in a small Barangay in Davao City. Barangay Camus in Davao is a small quiet town until the techno music plays that signals the whole town folks to get out of their houses to dance “Budots”.  “Budots” is a combination of a tribal dance and a Pinoy’s imagination that gave the first its modern twist. The steps look freestyle but they’re actually based on the Badjao dance. Badjao drum beat mixed with techno music equals “Bistik” or Bisayan Tikno (how a person that speaks Bisaya would pronounce techno). And for those who are not aware, Bisaya is the dialect that Davaoeños speak.

The dance that was started by just a group of guys in a small town became the country’s new craze. Once again the Pinoy’s love for dance made us defy social status or educational background. We dance because we love to dance. It doesn’t matter who started it.

2. UTANUN SA KAANG

SPECIAL EVENTS (2nd Kalubihan Festival & Farmers Day)

Growing vegetables can bring out the farmer in you. You till the soil and tend the plants, then reap the rewards when the plants bear fruit.

Even if you don't have much sunny ground, you can still experience the pleasure of harvesting your own vine-ripened tomatoes and other crops. All you need is a generous-size container, good potting soil, and a suitable spot ― a patio, deck, or corner that gets at least six hours of full sun a day.

If you do have actual ground for growing, containers can still help you overcome problems like poorly drained soil, pests such as gophers, and soil-borne diseases such as fusarium wilt, nematodes, and verticillium wilt.

Also, since soil in pots warms up more quickly in spring than it does in the ground, you can get a tomato or pepper off to a faster start. And tall pots make it easier for gardeners with limited mobility to tend crops without kneeling or squatting.

Vegetables in containers add visual punch to the landscape. Choose large, decorative containers and surround them with smaller pots of colorful flowers, and you'll have attractive focal points ― and a bounty of vegetables ― all summer long.

3. FLOWER ARRANGEMENT

Enhancing the beauty of flowers with artistic arrangement is the art of flower arrangements. Flower arrangements are an important part of the ambience on any occasion, weddings, birthdays, parties or any other events in life.

Flower arrangement is an organization of design and color towards creating an ambience using flowers, foliage and other floral accessories. Flower arrangement is not an art to be reserved only for special occasions. A few flowers on the kitchen table can be as important in their own way as a full scale decoration for a big occasion. Flower arrangements beautify homes and offices alike and are also used as centerpieces for a table. Flower arrangements are made out of fresh cut flowers, dried flowers and artificial flowers as well.

3. FLOWER ARRANGEMENT

Principles of Flower Arrangement  Although the art of floral arrangement encompasses many principles, there are at least six important principles. They are: • Design: It decides the structural pattern of the floral arrangement. It is a visualized plan about the size and shape of the floral arrangement. The design is essentially determined by the location, occasion and the materials available. • Balance: It emphasizes on the use of materials in a floral arrangement which gives stability to the arrangement. The two most important elements of Balance of an arrangement are the form and color of the floral arrangement. Again, balance is of two types viz.,Symmetrical Balance: The two sides of the floral arrangement have equal amount of materials placed on either side of the floral arrangement. Asymmetrical Balance: The two sides of the floral arrangement are not equal but still have equal visual weight. Color plays a vital role here. Dark colors give a visual effect of weight and so are used low in the arrangement. So also, lighter colors are more appropriate for the outer and upper portions of the floral arrangements.

3. FLOWER ARRANGEMENT

• Scale: It deals with the proportions of different components of the floral arrangement. It thus emphasizes on the use of material used to that of the size of the container holding the floral arrangement.• Rhythm: It emphasizes on directing the viewer's eye along the main line of arrangement so that the whole shape of the composition is properly followed and understood. • Emphasis (Focal Point): The central portion of the floral arrangement from where the flowers and foliage of the arrangement appear to be emerging from is known as the focal point of the arrangement. Hence, larger and dark colored flowers are usually used in the focal point of the floral arrangement.

• Harmony and Unity: This principle takes care of the appropriate use of flowers for the occasion. It also takes care of the blending of colors of the flowers used in the floral arrangement and that of the container such that they contrast each other.
