Tryon North Exit to West BayCounty Property
North Tryon
Issue :The north side is split by City Owned Property
Still Waiting on County Approval
We have decided to move ahead and start north exit and create loop back to existing double track
Potential for adding a new lower loop in north that would create a significant size loop

By the Numbers…
• 400+ hours of volunteer time, plus 10 days of mini-excavator time
• Completed construction of Black Trail
• Added technical features on Green, Violet, Brown, Purple, Black
• De-bermed and added drainage features to all trails
• Cleared leaves spring and fall on all trails (multiple times!)
• Cleared dozens of downed trees throughout the year
• Posted the park boundaries before hunting season!
• Park hosted HC24, Mountaineer and several trail running races
• Usage appears to have increased significantly
About the Park• Owned and managed by Ontario County
Park-Anthony Roberge-Park Manager
• 400 acres of land
• Camping and picknicking amenities, lodges, ADA accessible
• Heated bathroom and showers
• 2200’, about 6 degrees cooler on hot days
• 17 miles of shared use trails

Excavator at Work on Black• 4 people plus operator
• Average about ~500 feet/hr of “finished” trail
• 10 days ~ 200 hours
• Finish back cut, bench raking and shaping, initial rock install on corners and low areas, removing debris including axing roots, and naturalizing

• Work Parties and Volunteer Hours
• Projects Completed• Goals for 2016
Work Parties and Volunteer Hours Even before the snow melted and the
ground thawed, we began flagging and building new trails
12 large work parties, mostly on weekends, occasionally weeknights, with 8-52 volunteers
28 small work parties, mostly on weekday early morning
Innumerable contribution by individuals on their own
916 total volunteer hours (recorded)
Projects CompletedNew Trails
o Big Easy- Novice level. Least technical way to get to top of hill
o Stormy- Using part of the decommissioned Pinball, this was created to be a one-way up trail. Slightly technical (roots). Good grind.
o Jasper- Similarly, using part of the decommissioned Humpty Dumpty trail, we made a more flowy, longer and sustainable intermediate trail
Projects Completed (cont’d)Trail Reroutes and Improvements
o Eye of the Snake- bypass of an eroded section, adds length and interest
o Eagle Trail -long reroute of lower sectiono Owl’s Maze- fairly technical new turn to
bypass a badly eroded section. Added pavers to repair an eroded spot
o Bone-A-Part- rebuilt dropo Tree Beard- added pavers and reshaped
an eroded S-curve o Ribbon Candy- Reshaped an eroded turn
and added a drop o Ipod- Added pavers and filled in eroded
spots in two spots
Projects Completed (cont’d)o Eagle- added pavers and fill to correct an
eroded sectiono Moon Valley- added a large, crushed-
stone water catch basin, added some grade reversals and repaired rutted spots
o Juicy Bacon- reshaped first major dropping turn
o Ziggy- added log and dirt grade reversals to repair an eroded spot
o Den- reroute after first drop near Kaleidoscope
o Chutes and Ladders- added pavers to repair eroded section and redefine the correct line
o VHT- used fill and pavers to correct a badly eroded section
Other Accomplishments Signage- Mary Lee has hand painted
dozens of new signs, some to mark the new trails and others to replace aging, broken and faded ones
Mapping- Scott Page laid out all the trails including the newest additions and major reroutes of others for an up-to-date version. He has done this while creating a digital file that has been sent for posting by GROC and Victor Parks and Recreation, which allows for easy updating as changes are made
Permanent bike repair stand with air pump and attached tools, donated and maintained by Victor Parks and Rec
Goals for 2016 Trails:
o Elevator- we have closed it off and started reshaping the climb to include steps and pavers to correct erosion and improve drainage. This should be completed as first project of 2016
o Epping Forest- we flagged an added section to be built in 2016
o CMP- we would like to see a major revision to be sustainable and yet very technical and challenging
General goals:o Improve volunteer involvement. Broaden
the participation by the mtn biking communityo Add features to the trails, some as optionso Increase grade reversals on existing trails
Thanks!! Many thanks to all our dedicated volunteers.
You not only make it possible to accomplish so much, but you also keep us excited and motivated to keep improving this wonderful gift of a park that we all enjoy.
Thanks to Brian Emelson (and the Town of Victor) for all his encouragement, emotional and material support and friendship. He not only started legal mtn biking in our area but also has worked tirelessly to make Dryer the most used trail for riding in our system.
Thanks to Jeff Rader and his staff. Even though they are incredibly busy throughout the season, he graciously and promptly responds to our various requests for materials, tree removals and access road repairs

use of 6x6 timbers and rebar• Lumber provided by MCP• Added anchor rocks to define
shape of preceding turn• Armored approach to boardwalk
Orange• 1) Finished Orange Extension and
opened mid-spring!• 400 hours total (2014-2015)• Unique character for network• Unsustainable trail being taken
offline (help from MC forestry)

• 3) Giant S replaced scramble up from big bench
• Cribbing material provided by MCP
• 4) Re-routed unsustainable climb/descent below tennis court
Blue, Orange, Red• Reroute of sweeping curve that had
been widening• New line is more rolling and
incorporates anchor rocks• Added anchor rocks across gully to
define corner• Re-route of intersection above big
bench leading up from trolley bed• Eliminated a dangerous approach to
the descent down to the trolley bed • Project led by new leaders• Closed down a fall-line trail that was
not part of the official network
Purple• 6 & 7) Many adjustments to
benching and shape• Projects defined and work led by
up and coming Trail Crew leaders
Network at end of 2015 season
GOALS• Continually improve sustainability • More trail diversity – primitive to MTB-optimized• Maintain friendly, shared-use atmosphere with less trail
density (low mileage)• New expert-only features and flow trail lines• Improve trail building skills and employ new techniques• Update and improve accessibility – signage and mapping
(name trails for colorblind?)
2016 Projects
Overlook Trail• Project nearing completion (mid-spring opening)• Less predictable shape for different character
(diversity)• Will likely be a favorite for all user groups
• Decommission “Middle Orange”• Create connectivity to make Red a
through-trail• Design and build expert-only features on
Red loop (possible new color)
• Thank you all volunteers!• Thank you Monroe County Parks• Open to suggestions and

• We need your help to plan ahead!
• Let’s talk about how to take this thingThere are 2 pages to the survey
First page asks about your thoughts on the trails in the parks you ride (OCP, Tryon, BPW, DRP). If you ride in more than one park, please fill out additional pages
Second page asks about volunteering, you only do one of these
You don’t need to put your name unless you want more info about volunteering
• We will be having an informational meeting on Feb. 20 for anyone interested in learning more about volunteering with GROC
