DESCRIPTION

So many people are taking yoga classes today which is exciting because it is bringing a real shift in consciousness. In our Atma yoga teacher training, we study yoga throughout history till today so our students fully understand the purpose of yoga. This presentation is on Sankya yoga which describes the nature of reality as described in the ancient yogic texts - it's an illusory matrix or dream and we need to wake up from it. Why? Because dreams are just a pale comparison to the real thing. See our website for more resources on yoga (yoga sets, videos, audio lectures, meditations and music) that you can download for free and to take our teacher training: www.atmayoga.net

Sankhya

• How do you create a virtual reality?

• Consider: where do movies come from?

• How are Television images made?

• What goes into putting on a play?

• How do you build a totally awesome and believable virtual reality?

Sankhya, cont’d

• In sankhya the underlying qualities of the universe are called Gunas– Sattva = Goodness– Rajas = Passion– Tamas = Ignorance

Page 10: Yoga History lessons for yoga students and yoga teachers

Sankhya, cont’d

• The 3 gunas work a little like the RGB of TV

Page 11: Yoga History lessons for yoga students and yoga teachers

Evolution Process

• The material progression begins when Vishnu projects his superior consciousness (internal potency), the living entities (us) and time (external potency) into the Mahat Tattva (material nature.)

• This is similar to impregnating (Visnu remains distant - the actual contact is lord Shiva)– Womb is the intermediate place

where the baby grows (Maha Tattva)

– Delivery of the baby is similar to the creation of Prakrti
