GOD’S DESIGN• Work is good

• In the beginning, there was work

• God works

• 예수께서 그들에게 이르시되 내 아버지께서 이제까지 일하시니 나도 일한다 하시매 (요한복음 5:17)

• My Father is always at his work to this very day, and I too am working (John 5: 17)

GOD’S DESIGN• Mark of human dignity

• 하나님이 이르시되 우리의 형상을 따라 우리의 모양대로 우리가 사람을 만들고 그들로 바다의 물고기와 하늘의 새와 가축과 온 땅과 땅에 기는 모든 것을 다스리게 하자 하시고 (창세기 1:26)

• Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.” (Genesis 1: 26)

• Called and assigned

• 오직 주께서 각 사람에게 나눠 주신 대로 하나님이 각 사람을 부르신 그대로 행하라 내가 모든 교회에서 이와 같이 명하노라 (고린도전서 7:17)

• Nevertheless, each person should live as a believer in whatever situation the Lord has assigned to them, just as God has called them. This is the rule I lay down in all the churches. (1 Corinthians 7: 17)

PROBLEM• Fruitless

• 땅이 네게 가시덤불과 엉겅퀴를 낼 것이라 (창세기 3:18a)

• It will produce thorns and thistles for you (Genesis 3:18a)

• Meaningless

• 이러므로 내가 사는 것을 미워하였노니 이는 해 아래에서 하는 일이 내게 괴로움이요 모두 다 헛되어 바람을 잡으려는 것이기 때문이로다 (전도서 2:17)

• So I hated life, because the work that is done under the sun was grievous to me. All of it is meaningless, a chasing after the wind (Ecclesiastes 2:17)

PROBLEM

• Idol

• If we do not believe that God is gracious to us and is pleased with us, or if we presumptuously expect to please Him only through and after our works, then it is all pure deception , outwardly honoring God, but inwardly setting up self as a false god. - Luther

• Selfish

• 또 말하되 자, 성읍과 탑을 건설하여 그 탑 꼭대기를 하늘에 닿게 하여 우리 이름을 내고 온 지면에 흩어짐을 면하자 하였더니 (창세기 11:4)

• Then they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches to the heavens, so that we may make a name for ourselves; otherwise we will be scattered over the face of the whole earth.” (Genesis 11: 4)

RESOLUTION

• Perspective

• 온갖 좋은 은사와 온전한 선물이 다 위로부터 빛들의 아버지께로부터 내려오나니 (야고보서 1:17)

• “every good and perfect gift is from above . . . from the Father of the heavenly lights.” - (James 1:17)

• Do not worship work

• “I will still serve my nation, but I will no longer worship my nation. Syria’s national interests are important to me, but are no longer my ultimate value or god.” - Naaman, 2 Kings 5

RESOLUTION• Work to serve

• 그런즉 너희가 먹든지 마시든지 무엇을 하든지 다 하나님의 영광을 위하여 하라 (고린도전서 10:31)

• So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God. 1 (Corinthians 10: 31)

• Rest

• 수고하고 무거운 짐 진 자들아 다 내게로 오라 내가 너희를 쉬게 하리라. 나는 마음이 온유하고 겸손하니 나의 멍에를 메고 내게 배우라 그리하면 너희 마음이 쉼을 얻으리니. 이는 내 멍에는 쉽고 내 짐은 가벼움이라 하시니라. (마태복음 11:28 - 30)

• Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light (Matthew 11: 28– 30).

If the God of the Bible exists, and there is a True Reality beneath and behind this one, and this life is not the only life, then every good endeavor, even the simplest ones, pursued in response to God’s calling, can matter forever.

• 주 우리 하나님의 은총을 우리에게 내리게 하사 우리의 손이 행한 일을 우리에게 견고하게 하소서 우리의 손이 행한 일을 견고하게 하소서 (시편 90:17)

• May the favor of the Lord our God rest on us; establish the work of our hands for us— yes, establish the work of our hands. (Pss 90:17)
