IN THOSE DAYS, children were brought to Jesus that he might lay his hands on them and pray. The disciples rebuked them, but Jesus said, “Let the children come to me, and do not prevent them; for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” After he placed his hands on them, he went away.

CATECHESIS OF YOUNG PEOPLE

In general it is observed that the first victims of the spiritual and cultural crisis gripping the world are the young. It is also true that any commitment to the betterment of society finds its hopes in them. This should stimulate the Church all the more to proclaim the Gospel to the world of youth with courage and creativity.

Some fell on rocky ground, where it had little soil. It sprang up at once because the soil was not deep, and when the sun rose it was scorched, and it withered for lack of roots. Some seed fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked it. But some seed fell on rich soil, and produced fruit, a hundred or sixty or thirtyfold. Whoever has ears ought to hear.

METHODS

METHODS OF BIBLE SHARING

The Lectio Divina is adapted to the situation of our people. In the special BEC edition of the Bible co-published by the Episcopal Commission on the Biblical Apostolate of the CBCP and by the Philippine Bible Society, there is an appendix of various forms of “bible sharing”, the different versions of the Lectio Divina. (Bastes, 2007)

THE 7 STEPS OF BIBLIARASAL

1. Invite the Lord2. Text Reading3. Again Look at the Text4. God Speaks We Listen5. Share6. Search7. Pray

#1: INVITE THE LORD

The facilitator invites a participant to lead the opening prayer.

#2: TEXT READING

The participants are divided into groups and take turns reading.

Group 1 reads the odd numbered verses; group 2 reads the even numbered verses.

#3: AGAIN, LOOK AT THE TEXT

A catechist summarizes and gives some observations on the Biblical passage being studied. Then, the participants are invited to pick out a verse and a value one can find in it. There is no sharing done yet. The chosen verse is read out loud and the value is announced.

#4: GOD SPEAKS, WE LISTEN

Observe silence for two (2) minutes to reflect on what has been taken so far.

#5: SHARE

One or two participants take up a “point of sharing” from the guide and do the sharing.

#6: SEARCH

The catechist relates the question, “What does the Lord want us to do?” Participants can give feedback to the catechist, and from time to time, they might decide to do something concrete as a group.

#7: PRAY

One or two volunteers are invited to recap the activity in the form of a prayer from the heart.
