SCRIPTURE READING

IN THOSE DAYS, children were brought to Jesus that he might lay his hands on them and pray. The disciples rebuked them, but Jesus said, “Let the children come to me, and do not prevent them; for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” After he placed his hands on them, he went away.

Matthew 19:13-15 (NAB)

CATECHESIS OF YOUNG PEOPLE

In general it is observed that the first victims of the spiritual and cultural crisis gripping the world are the young. It is also true that any commitment to the betterment of society finds its hopes in them. This should stimulate the Church all the more to proclaim the Gospel to the world of youth with courage and creativity.

SCRIPTURE READING

On that day, Jesus went out of the house and sat down by the sea. Such large crowds gathered around him that he got into a boat and sat down, and the whole crowd stood along the shore. And he spoke to them at length in parables, saying: “A sower went out to sow. And as he sowed, some seed fell on the path, and birds came and ate it up. –

SCRIPTURE READING

Some fell on rocky ground, where it had little soil. It sprang up at once because the soil was not deep, and when the sun rose it was scorched, and it withered for lack of roots. Some seed fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked it. But some seed fell on rich soil, and produced fruit, a hundred or sixty or thirtyfold. Whoever has ears ought to hear.

Matthew 13:1-9 (NAB)

SOURCES OF CATHOLIC FAITH

Sacred Tradition and Sacred Scripture form one sacred deposit of the word of God, committed to the Church. But the task of authentically interpreting the word of God, whether written or handed on, has been entrusted exclusively to the living teaching office of the Church, whose authority is exercised in the name of Jesus Christ.

METHODS OF BIBLE SHARING

The Lectio Divina is adapted to the situation of our people. In the special BEC edition of the Bible co-published by the Episcopal Commission on the Biblical Apostolate of the CBCP and by the Philippine Bible Society, there is an appendix of various forms of “bible sharing”, the different versions of the Lectio Divina. (Bastes, 2007)

#3: AGAIN, LOOK AT THE TEXT

A catechist summarizes and gives some observations on the Biblical passage being studied. Then, the participants are invited to pick out a verse and a value one can find in it. There is no sharing done yet. The chosen verse is read out loud and the value is announced.
