The Purpose Of Signs And Wonders

#1 They Cause People To Give Credence To The Messenger.

Acts 2:22 “People of Israel, listen! God publicly endorsed Jesus the

Nazarene by doing powerful miracles, wonders, and signs through him, as

you well know.

John 3:1There was a man named Nicodemus, Jewish religious leader who

was a Pharisee. 2 After dark one evening, he came to speak with Jesus.

“Rabbi,” he said, “we all know that God has sent you to teach us. Your

miraculous signs are evidence that God is with you.”

#2 They give credence to the message.

Mark 16:20 And the disciples went everywhere and preached, and the

Lord worked through them, confirming what they said by many

miraculous signs.

Romans 15:18 Yet I dare not boast about anything except what Christ has done through me, bringing the Gentiles to God by my message and by

the way I worked among them. 19 They were convinced by the power of

miraculous signs and wonders and by the power of God’s Spirit. In this

way, I have fully presented the Good News of Christ from Jerusalem all

the way to Illyricum.

Hebrews 2:4 And God confirmed the message by giving signs and

wonders and various miracles and gifts of the Holy Spirit whenever he

chose.

#3 They Cause You To Trust In The Power Of God

1 Corinthians 2:1 When I first came to you, dear brothers and sisters, I

didn’t use lofty words and impressive wisdom to tell you God’s secret

plan. 2 For I decided that while I was with you I would forget everything

except Jesus Christ, the one who was crucified. 3 I came to you in

weakness - timid and trembling. 4 And my message and my preaching

were very plain. Rather than using clever and persuasive speeches, I

relied only on the power of the Holy Spirit. 5 I did this so you would trust

not in human wisdom but in the power of God.
