Someone asked Billy Graham what he would do if one of his children were gay. He said…

“I’d love them MORE than ever!”

Page 3: The MORE! Challenge

Lord, I have tried to do it in my own strength for far too long now.I've come to the realization that it's time to turn everything over to you.

I am a sinner in need of forgiveness and grace.I want your strength to be my strength.

I want your love to be my loveAnd fill the void in my life.

From this day forward, I will acknowledge you as Lord and Savior.Amen.

1. Begin to experience the Love of God, personally. "God is love" (1 John 4:8). "If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God (Love) lives in him and he in God (Love)” (1 John 4:15). This “Love experience” can begin by praying the following prayer.

2. Love is not a static emotion; it is a progressive experience.

It's hard, Lord!I have both inherited and accumulated a lot of baggage,

Learned and conditioned values difficult to discard. The "sin nature" is an overpowering force.

Some people rub me the wrong way.Others get under my skin.

Evil is ever present.Hatred is crippling.

LOVE CONQUERS ALL!Fill me with your love one step, one day, and

one person at a time.Amen.

Make this prayer a part of your daily devotional life.

Tape the last three lines of this prayer to your bathroom mirror, computer monitor, wherever. Pray this prayer often.

3. Cultivate your Love life.

A new commandment I give to you … that you love one another as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this, all will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another (John 13:34-35).

Read the Scriptures daily and let the revealed Truth soak into your mind, soul, and spirit. Read with your heart as well as your mind and ask God to reveal these inspired truths to you in relevant, practical, and demonstrable ways.

THE COMMANDMENT OF COMPASSION

Memorize these two verses and make them part and parcel of every Bible reading and study. Every time you read a portion of Scripture, add these verses at the very end. If your memory is beginning to fade, like mine, write or type the verses on a card and make it your Bible book mark.

4. Start changing the script.

My dear children, let's not just talk about love; let's practice real love. This is the only way we'll know we're living truly, living in God's reality. It's also the way to shut down debilitating self criticism, even when there is something to it. For God is greater than our worried hearts (fears) and knows more about us than we do ourselves. (1 John 3:18-20 Msg).

Take a pad and pencil or go to your computer and make a file titled "Change the Script." This will require a bit of transparency and brutal honesty on your part, but make a list of your prejudices and intolerances toward people, those whose value systems differ from your own. Keep it short to begin with so that it doesn't become too overwhelming.

COMPASSION IN ACTION!Next to each item on your list, put a name to it and write a demonstrable action that you are prepared to practice on a regular basis (See book for examples). Let your imagination run and keep practicing in practical, tangible ways until it becomes habit-forming. In the process, you will start focusing on the person instead of the condition.

5. Take the "first stone" litmus test daily.

If any one of you is without sin, let him be the first to throw a stone. (John 8:7).

Find a small stone, preferably one that is flat on both sides and fits comfortably into your pocket or purse. With an indelible marker, write the number "490" (70 x 7) on one side; on the other side, draw a simple heart using red nail polish. When you are tempted to cast judgment upon another or find yourself offended and hurt by someone, reach for that stone, turn it over in your hand, and remind yourself of Jesus' teaching on sin, judgment, and forgiveness. Reflect on the sin in your own life and pray from your heart, "Father forgive them and forgive me." Instead of throwing the stone, place it back into your pocket or purse.

Than Ever6. Keep your eye on the Plumb Line.

I think the love of Jesus is indeed the plumb line by which everything is to be measured. And while laws may be more rigid, love is more demanding, for love insists on motivation and goes between, around, and way beyond all laws—William Sloan Coffin.

Drop a Plumb Line and it is always perfectly balancedbetween the right and the left.

JOIN THE REVOLUTION NOW!I want to conclude with a radical challenge to action. Jesus, the embodiment of the plumb line, was a revolutionary in the purest sense of the word. There are several definitions for the word revolution, and among them are "overthrow of a ruler" and "major change–a dramatic change in ideas or practice." Jesus referred to Satan as "the prince (ruler) of this world" (John 14:30). When God calls us, He calls us to radically change our life script and join the revolution–to proactively participate in the overthrow of Satan and his legions. His weapon of choice in this overthrow is love. Get compassionately radical and join the revolution now!
