Scripture:  Luke  19:28–48    The  Bible,  Week  4  

Jesus  rode  into  a  perfect  storm:  1.  Roman  Empire  2.  LegalisBc  religious  leaders  3.  “Wind  of  God”  

And  when  he  had  said  these  things,  he  went  on  ahead,  going  up  to  Jerusalem.  When  he  drew  near  to  Bethphage  and  Bethany,  at  the  mount  that  is  called  Olivet,  he  sent  two  of  the  disciples,  saying,  “Go  into  the  village  in  front  of  you,  where  on  entering  you  will  find  a  colt  Bed,  on  which  no  one  has  ever  yet  sat.  UnBe  it  and  bring  it  here.  If  anyone  asks  you,  ‘Why  are  you  untying  it?’  you  shall  say  this:  ‘The  Lord  has  need  of  it.’”  So  those  who  were  sent  went  away  and  found  it  just  as  he  had  told  them.  And  as  they  were  untying  the  colt,  its  owners  said  to  them,  “Why  are  you  untying  the  colt?”  

And  they  said,  “The  Lord  has  need  of  it.”  And  they  brought  it  to  Jesus,  and  throwing  their  cloaks  on  the  colt,  they  set  Jesus  on  it.  And  as  he  rode  along,  they  spread  their  cloaks  on  the  road.  As  he  was  drawing  near—already  on  the  way  down  the  Mount  of  Olives—the  whole  mulBtude  of  his  disciples  began  to  rejoice  and  praise  God  with  a  loud  voice  for  all  the  mighty  works  that  they  had  seen,  saying,  “Blessed  is  the  King  who  comes  in  the  name  of  the  Lord!  Peace  in  heaven  and  glory  in  the  highest!”  And  some  of  the  Pharisees  in  the  crowd  said  to  him,  “Teacher,  rebuke  your  disciples.”  He  answered,  “I  tell  you,  if  these  were  silent,  the  very  stones  would  cry  out.”  

   And  he  entered  the  temple  and  began  to  drive  out  those  who  sold,  saying  to  them,  “It  is  wri]en,  ‘My  house  shall  be  a  house  of  prayer,’  but  you  have  made  it  a  den  of  robbers.”  And  he  was  teaching  daily  in  the  temple.  The  chief  priests  and  the  scribes  and  the  principal  men  of  the  people  were  seeking  to  destroy  him,  but  they  did  not  find  anything  they  could  do,  for  all  the  people  were  hanging  on  his  words.

1.   When  Jesus  enters  my  life  I  receive  forgiveness  

For  since  the  law  has  but  a  shadow  of  the  good  things  to  come  instead  of  the  true  form  of  these  realiBes,  it  can  never,  by  the  same  sacrifices  that  are  conBnually  offered  every  year,  make  perfect  those  who  draw  near.  Otherwise,  would  they  not  have  ceased  to  be  offered,  since  the  worshipers,  having  once  been  cleansed,  would  no  longer  have  any  consciousness  of  sins?  But  in  these  sacrifices  there  is  a  reminder  of  sins  every  year.  For  it  is  impossible  for  the  blood  of  bulls  and  goats  to  take  away  sins.  

Consequently,  when  Christ  came  into  the  world,  he  said,  

 “Sacrifices  and  offerings  you  have  not  desired,            but  a  body  have  you  prepared  for  me;  in    burnt  offerings  and  sin  offerings  you  have  taken  no  pleasure.  

Then  I  said,  ‘Behold,  I  have  come  to  do  your  will,  O  God,  as  it  is  wri]en  of  me  in  the  scroll  of  the  book.’”  

When  he  said  above,  “You  have  neither  desired  nor  taken  pleasure  in  sacrifices  and  offerings  and  burnt  offerings  and  sin  offerings”  (these  are  offered  according  to  the  law),  then  he  added,  “Behold,  I  have  come  to  do  your  will.”  He  does  away  with  the  first  in  order  to  establish  the  second.  And  by  that  will  we  have  been  sancBfied  through  the  offering  of  the  body  of  Jesus  Christ  once  for  all.  

Hebrews  10:1-­‐10  (ESV)  

1.   When  Jesus  enters  my  life  I  receive  forgiveness

…both  Jews  and  Greeks,  are  under  sin,  as  it  is  wri]en:  “None  is  righteous,  no,  not  one;  …  no  one  does  good,          not  even  one.”  

Romans  3:9-­‐10,  12  (ESV)  

For  by  works  of  the  law  no  human  being  will  be  jusBfied  in  his  sight,  since  through  the  law  comes  knowledge  of  sin.

“Do  not  think  that  I  have  come  to  abolish  the  Law  or  the  Prophets;  I  have  not  come  to  abolish  them  but  to  fulfill  them.”
