When looking at the word, fraternity, I see people of all walks of life that are trying to spread the love and joy of Jesus, as taught and exemplified by St. Francis our holy founder. Fraternity

What really is “Fraternity” in the eyes of a Secular Franciscan? When looking at the word, fraternity, I see people of all walks of life that are trying to spread the love and joy of Jesus, as taught and exemplified by St. Francis our holy founder. We are a people watching out for, and caring for, our planetary home, the Planet Earth. We are a people who show love and respect for all forms of life, animate and inanimate. 1. a group of people sharing a common profession or interests. "members of the hunting fraternity"

synonyms: profession, body of workers; More band, group, set, circle "the teaching fraternity"

2. the state or feeling of friendship and mutual support within a group. "the ideals of liberty, equality, and fraternity"

synonyms:

brotherhood, fellowship, kinship, friendship, (mutual) support, solidarity, community, union, togetherness; sisterhood "a spirit of fraternity"

Just as the reader at church does when reading the liturgical readings by using the opening of “Brethren”…, this doesn’t exclude women and girls, as the term covers all mankind, male and female.

Guest Commentary…

Our Holy Father, Pope Francis, offers this prayer at the end of his new Encyclical:

All-powerful God, you are present in the whole universe and in the smallest of your creatures. You embrace with your tenderness all that exists. Pour out upon us the power of your love, that we may protect life and beauty. Fill us with peace that we may live as brothers and sisters, harming no one.

O God of the poor, help us to rescue the abandoned and forgotten of this earth, so precious in your eyes. Bring healing to our lives, that we may protect the world and not prey on it, that we may sow beauty, not pollution and destruction. Touch the hearts of those who look only for gain at the expense of the poor and the earth. Teach us to discover the worth of each thing, to be filled with awe and contemplation, to recognize that we are profoundly united with every creature as we journey towards your infinite light.

We thank you for being with us each day .Encourage us, we pray, in our struggle for justice, love and peace.

To Our Lady of Fatima,

Our Lady of Fatima, pray for our dear country. Our Lady of Fatima, sanctify our clergy. Our Lady of Fatima, make our Catholics more fervent. Our Lady of Fatima, guide and inspire those who govern us. Our Lady of Fatima, cure the sick who confide in you. Our Lady of Fatima, console the sorrowful who trust in you. Our Lady of Fatima, help those who invoke your aid. Our Lady of Fatima, deliver us from all dangers. Our Lady of Fatima, help us to resist temptation. Our Lady of Fatima, obtain for us all that we lovingly ask of you. Our Lady of Fatima, help those who are dear to us. Our Lady of Fatima, bring back to the right road our erring brothers. Our Lady of Fatima, give us back our ancient fervor. Our Lady of Fatima, obtain for us pardon of our manifold sins and offenses. Our Lady of Fatima, bring all men to the feet of your Divine Child. Our Lady of Fatima, obtain peace for the world.

O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to you. Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us now and at the hour of our death. O God of infinite

goodness and mercy, fill our hearts with a great confidence in your dear Mother, whom we invoke under the title of Our Lady of the Rosary and our Lady of Fatima, and grant us by her powerful intercession all the graces, spiritual and temporal, which we need, through Christ our Lord. Amen.
