Born to Be King

“He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David.” (Luke 1:32, NKJV) “Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the East and have come to worship Him.” (Matthew 2:2, NKJV)

Born to Be King

“You are a king, then!” said Pilate. Jesus answered, “You are right in saying I am a king. In fact, for this reason I was born, and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me.” (John 18:37, NIV84)

Jesus never sat on a throne.The royal house of David was cut off over 500 years before.The last King was executed by Nebucadnezer in 586BC

A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse; from His roots a Branch will bear fruit. (Isaiah 11:1, NIV84)

Throughout the Old Testament there was a longing for the Messiah, God’s anointed King who would rule with justice and mercy, wisdom and power.Judges 21:25 “In those days there was no king; every man did what was right in his own eyes.”

The three greatest Kings of Israel failed.

Saul succeeded in battle but failed because of jealousy.David unified the nation but failed morally.Solomon after a brilliant start fell into idolatry.

The longing for the perfect ruler and government.Peace, justice, freedom, prosperity.Many promise but none deliver.

“Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord!” “Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!” Luke 19:38The crowds that went ahead of Him and those that followed shouted, “Hosanna to the Son of David!” Matthew 21:9

The Prophecies of a King

Of the increase of His government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David’s throne and over His kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish this. Isaiah 9:7

Jeremiah 23:5 “The days are coming,” declares the Lord, “when I will raise up to David a righteous Branch, a King who will reign wisely and do what is just and right in the land.

He was given authority, glory and sovereign power; all peoples, nations and men of every language worshipped Him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion that will not pass away, and His kingdom is one that will never be destroyed. Daniel 7:14

Jesus never claimed His kingship over the nations while on earth.To those who love Him as Saviour He becomes their King.John 3:3 “I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again.”James 2:5 Listen, my dear brothers: Has not God chosen those who are poor in the eyes of the world to be rich in faith and to inherit the kingdom he promised those who love him?

Matthew 24:30 “At that time the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and all the nations of the earth will mourn. They will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky, with power and great glory.Matthew 25:31 “When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the angels with Him, He will sit on His throne in heavenly glory. All the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.

1 Corinthians 15:25 For He must reign until He has put all His enemies under His feet.Revelation 1:5 Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth. Celebrating Christmas
