•Commonly considered a center of intuition and insight, the “third eye” has an important place in Tantric tradition. Situated between and just above the eyes, the third eye is often accentuated with a “bindi,” or small red dot, among Indian women. The third eye also marks the location of the body’s sixth chakra, or energy center. Although most people experience energy blockages in this chakra, those who do tap into the power of the third eye experience a deeper connection with their innate inner wisdom and trust. Additionally, the third eye is responsible for imagination, visualization, and even clairvoyance.

•We can help to stimulate energy flow through the third eye by downplaying the importance of physical sight. This can be achieved during yoga practice by closing your eyes, using a blindfold, or adopting a drishti gaze. We can also support third eye health by performing supported forward bends, during which the third eye rests on a blanket or bolster. Finally, consider closing the yoga practice by reciting namaste with the hands held in prayer position over the third eye.
