Thesis:

• Your attitude toward the Bible determines your ability to understand and proclaim its doctrines.

Point 1.

• Divine truth has to be understood from a divine standpoint so that as revealed truth is obeyed, added light is granted.

Job 34:32 That which I see not teach thou me: if I have done

iniquity, I will do no more.SSM Spring 2010

Point 4.

• You cannot understand the Bible through grammar, history and commentary alone;

you come to understand the Bible as you compare scripture with scripture and listen to the

WHAT THE BIBLE IS 1. A BOOK 3. A REVELATION

Because of its consistency It is delivered with absolute authority Because of its progressive revelation It tells us things we could not know otherwise

2. A RECORD 4. A MESSAGE OT = the record of a called-out nation Of a present salvation NT = the record of a called-out church Of a coming kingdom

Page 9: Ssm Theology Week 3

Conclusion

1. God gave a wisdom not of this world

2. Although Biblical revelation comes to us in human language, it does not participate in the limitations of human speech

3. When translated correctly, Biblical truth should not be compromised to adapt to culture

4. The Bible should not be reinterpreted by the translation to

make the message of Scripture suitable to modern men and

women

Thesis A:

• The prayers of the saints “interrupt heaven” and cause things to happen on earth.

SSM Spring 2010

Page 19: Ssm Theology Week 3

Survey of Theology - Shelby 19

Thesis B:

• God listens to the prayers of the saints and prayer does not change things, but prayer is our personal involvement in the spiritual realm, which does change things.
