Our Words When Solomon became a king, he asked for special wisdom from God. He was granted that, and he turned out to be good with words. In his poetic way he says in Proverbs 25:11: “Timely advice is as lovely as golden apples in a silver basket” Words can start a war or lead to peace. Words can create problems or solve them. Words can stir up bad feelings or calm the situation. Words can lead to hatred or love. Words can cause people to feel bad or good Our words are very important in our society, in our homes, in our daily lives and when we meet people. Our words can have an unseen power that passes on our thoughts and attitude. In Matthew 12:34 (last part) Jesus says: “For whatever is in your heart determines what you say”. At a time where the pressure is great, a word of encouragement can make a big change in someones life. Words of encouragements can give courage, comfort and delight to our fellow human beings who are discouraged. In James 3:5 the apostle gives us a vivid picture of why we need to be careful how we use our tongue: “The tongue is a small thing, but what enormous damage it can do. A tiny spark can set a great forest on fire”. Our words can cause a big disaster, like a fire that has come out of control. That is why

Our Words

it is so important to fill our hearts with what is good, with positive values and to take the advice and guidance that is given to us through the Bible. There are so many people around us that have a very low self-esteem. They feel that they cannot measure up, that everyone else is so much better. God, who created us, equipped us, saved us and who loves us says that we are valuable in His eyes. We should help those who think that they are not worth much to see that. We are all so valuable to God! Let us use our tongue to say words that help give restitution to those who are weighed down.
