Social Justice Issues involved in the movie - ‘Mississippi Burning’ There are many social justice issues throughout the movie
Mississippi Burning. These include: domestic violence racial violence seen by the unfair and unjust bashings against
black people and an officers wide who tried to do the right things. Movie set in a small Mississippi town in 1964 Black people were not classified as equal; inhuman. - Currently
in Australia there are issues that relate to the ones in the movie; these include:
The treatment of Aboriginal people in the widespread Australian community.
What is the Government doing about the issue? Australian government (State and Federal) and the
development of the racial discrimination act, 1975. Departments key responsibility to ensure respect to
Indigenous Australians Racial Discrimination Act prevents any
discrimination on the bases of race in any form of public life. This includes; employment, buying property, advertising, and accessing public places.
Catholic teachings regarding the issue
Treat others as you would like to be treated
‘The good Samaritan’
It must be aggressively resisted by every individual and rooted out of every social institution and structure.
How do we as a school address the issue?
By expressing good values and performing the right attitudes to Indigenous people, we practice and appreciate the teachings in Biblical form and throughout the Catholic religion.

Following the ‘anti discrimination act’ set in 1975.
