RepentanceBiblical RepentanceIII. The Elements of Repentance

1. Sin Admitted—Conviction.

This recognition of sin is conviction, and it

constitutes the intellectual element in repentance.

"Father, I have sinned against heaven and before thee: I am not worthy to be called thy son" Luke 15: 11-32

Page 42: Snapshots of the Holy Spirit

III. The Elements of Repentance

2. Sin Abhorred—Contrition. " Sorrow, remorse, regret" is a feeling. This

is the emotional element in repentance.

“…a rooster crowed… Peter went

outside and wept bitterly.” Matt. 26:75

“yet now I am happy, …because your sorrow led

you to repentance. For you became sorrowful as

God intended …” 2 Cor 7:9

Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation 2 Cor 7:10This is the one I esteem: he who is humble and contrite in spirit” Isa. 66:2

4. Confession before God and Fellow Believer

5. Restitution where possible

But Zacchaeus stood up and said to the Lord, "Look, Lord! Here and now I give

half of my possessions to the poor, and if I have cheated anybody out of anything, I will pay back four times the amount." Jesus said to him, "Today salvation has come to this house…” Luke19: 8-9
