Philadelphia: • Notable Information About Philadelphia ✴ Known for it’s adherence to and propagation of Hellenistic thought. Sometimes referred to as “Little Athens.”✴ Located on the main route of the Imperial Post to the East. Known as the gateway or door to the east.✴ Founded on geological fault line. Prone to Earthquakes and volcanic eruption.✴ Close proximity to Catacecaumene, volcanic burnt land, which separated the provinces of Lydia and Phrygia.✴ Volcanic soil was conducive to growing grapes

Philadelphia: • Address - “To the angel of the church in Philadelphia write:”•Identification - “These are the words of him who is holy and true, who holds the key of David. What he opens no one can shut, and what he shuts no one can open.”✴ Holy - Set apart, different - He didn’t achieve a standard of holiness He is the standard.✴ True - The one, true God. He is authentic, not manufactured. He is the original, not a copy.

Philadelphia: •Promise: “The one who is victorious I will make a pillar in the temple of my God. Never again will they leave it. I will write on them the name of my God and the name of the city of my God, the new Jerusalem, which is coming down out of heaven from my God; and I will also write on them my new name.”✴ Pillar in the Temple of my God ✴Ancient cities often honored great leaders by erecting pillars with their names inscribed on them✴In the Temple of my God refers to their place of acceptance in the true temple, no court of gentiles
