First rebellion - importance questioned

Eze 28 15Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee תמים אתה בדרכיך מיום הבראך עד נמצא עולתה בך

Ideology behind disobedience

1. Not always important

2. Not always possible

Page 11: Sermon 57. The Law. History of Controversy

Obedience is more important than our desires

1Sa 15 22And Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams. 23For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being king.

Job - possibility questioned

Job 1 9Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, Doth Job fear God for nothing? 10Hast not thou made an hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath on every side? thou hast blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land. 11But put forth thy hand now, and touch all that he hath, and he will curse thee to thy face.

Jesus: law must be followed

Mat 23 23Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, justice , mercy, and faith: these ye ought to have done, and not to leave the others undone.

Page 14: Sermon 57. The Law. History of Controversy

Jesus: pharisees are not ENOUGH obedient

Mat 5:2020For I say to you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no way enter into the kingdom of heaven.

Page 15: Sermon 57. The Law. History of Controversy

Jesus: Law was given earlier. And is firmer than Universe

Luk 16 16The law and the prophets were until John: since that time the kingdom of God is preached, and every man presseth into it. 17And it is easier for heaven and earth to pass away, than one tittle of the law to fail.

Jam 4:17 17Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.

Luk 17:10 10So likewise ye, when ye shall have done all those things which are commanded to you, say , We are unprofitable servants : we have done that which was our duty to do.

1Cor 9:16-17 16For though I preach the gospel, I have nothing to boast of: for necessity is laid upon me; and, woe is to me, if I preach not the gospel!

Nailed to the cross Col 2:13-1713And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he made alive together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses; 14Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; 15 And having disarmed principalities and powers, he made a show of them openly, triumphing over them in it.

God did not want to destroy His law

Rom 7:12-1312Therefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good. 13Was then that which is good made death to me? By no means. But sin, that it might appear sin, working death in me by that which is good; that sin by the commandment might become exceeding sinful.

Christ did not use Divine power

Phili 2:77but did empty himself, the form of a servant having taken, in the likeness of men having been made,(YLT literal translation) Luk 2:5252And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.

Page 25: Sermon 57. The Law. History of Controversy

Christ did not use Divine power Act 10:3838That God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed by the devil; for God was with him. Joh 5:1919Then answered Jesus and said to them, Verily, verily, I say to you, The Son can do nothing by himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for whatever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise.

Sealed Remnant - Sanctification achieved Rev 7 2And I saw another angel ascending from the east, having the seal of the living God: and he cried with a loud voice to the four angels, to whom it was given to hurt the earth and the sea, 3Saying, Hurt not the earth, neither the sea, nor the trees, till we have sealed the servants of our God in their foreheads. 4And I heard the number of them who were sealed: and there were sealed an hundred and forty and four thousand of all the tribes of the children of Israel.

Promise to those who win Rev 3:9-11 9Behold, I will make them of the synagogue of Satan, who say they are Jews, and are not, but do lie; behold, I will make them to come and worship before thy feet, and to know that I have loved thee. 10Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth. 11Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown.
