13 years in urban community colleges, working with low income, first generation college students and students with disabilities

I’ve been a member in three UU churches and been a regular visitor in many more.

I have two degrees from UNT—one in Interdisciplinary Social Sciences and a Masters in Public Administration

My first job out of college was working as an organizer in low income HUD housing in Dallas; our goal was to preserve and improve affordable housing though tenant leadership.

I have traveled to El Salvador with a group called Results to learn about microcredit programs for women and to Guatemala with UUSC to learn about fair trade coffee. I speak regularly to groups about both of these anti-poverty and empowerment strategies.

Last year I became a master composter. This year my kids helped me work with Metro Care Ring to start a community garden that would help them teach about food, gardening and composting and serve as a gathering place for urban dwellers. Next year the whoe lot will be a garden!

This summer some UU’s in Denver decided to train together for the Denver rock n roll half marathon…I joined and we shall see how that goes in October!

I am also a trained facilitator for work in Parker Palmer’s formation retreats through the Center for Formation in Higher Education.
