4Iftar and iftar dishes
from around the world
Iftar -refers to the evening meal when Muslims break their fast
during the Islamic month of Ramadan .Iftar is one of the religious
observances of Ramadan and is often done as a community, with
people gathering to break their fast together. Muslims break their
fast just before the Maghrib prayer, (sunset) with something like
a date and a small drink of water and after the prayer they gather
for the Iftar meal.

• It is mustahabb in Ramadaan to offer iftaar to those who are fasting, because of the hadeeth of Zayd ibn Khaalid al-Juhani
(may Allaah be pleased with him) who said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:
“Whoever gives iftaar to one who is fasting will have a reward like his, without that detracting from the fasting person’s reward in the slightest.” Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, 807; Ibn
Maajah, 1746; classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Tirmidhi, 647
