• When you consult a physician, you want to have the assurance that she knows what she's talking about.

• We expect doctors to be able to tell us how to better prevent disease, remedy pain or sickness when necessary, and stay healthy and fit.

• We want them to have plenty of experience in the field, but they also need to have taken the appropriate training.

• How many of us would see a doctor who had never been to medical school, never studied the books, and hadn't stayed abreast of advances in research?

• The same applies to us as Christians.

• We can have all the “field experience” imaginable, but if we haven't studied The Book—if we aren't relying on the authoritative manual—we will not be successful in living the abundant life.

• You can espouse reasonable philosophy and noble thoughts about God all day long, but if you're not rooted in His Word, your words aren't reliable.

• There is no way around it: our Christian life must be built on the foundation of the Word of God

• There are two applications in Scripture of the title “the Word of God.”

• One is to the Bible itself (God's written word), and the other is to Jesus Christ (God's personal word).

Page 7: Power of god's word*

T H E I N D I S P E N S A B L E W O R D

• Each of them is called the Word of God.

• If we want to be rightly related to Jesus, we must be rightly related to the Bible.

• So let's discover the authority and the power of God's Word

M AT T H E W 1 1 : 2 8 - 3 0 ( K J V )

• 28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you,

and LEARN OF ME; for I am

meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

• “Take My yoke upon you

and learn OF Me,” King James says.

• “Learn FROM Me,” New King James says.

Page 10: Power of god's word*

L E A R N = D I S C I P L E

• Now that word “learn” there, where He says “learn of Me” or “learn from Me”, that is the same root word as “disciple”.

• A disciple is one who learns.

Page 11: Power of god's word*

• When He says, “learn of Me” He is saying, “Be discipled by Me. Learn Of Me. Be my pupil. Be my student.

• That is discipleship.

• “Come to Me and be discipled by Me.”

Page 12: Power of god's word*

• We could say “Come to Me” is the Gate, and “Be discipled by Me” is the Path.

• We could say, “Come to Me (enter into the Gate) and learn of Me (walk the Narrow Path).”

• It’s not just coming to Jesus, it is LEARNING of Jesus! Coming to Jesus, everyone [is] coming to Jesus – but how many are LEARNING of Him? “

• Come to Me and be discipled by Me. Come to Me and learn of Me.

• John 1:1-2 (KJV)

• John 1:14 (KJV)
