Aristotle thought there was a direct connection between ones physiology and their dreams. Temples were erected in the Hellenistic period where sick people could sleep with the hopes that a cure could reach them through their dreams.

The influence of dreams was muzzled through the middles ages until the late 19th century when Sigmund Freud reignited the significance of dreams. Freud believed dreams offered an opportunity to develop a greater understanding of the dreamer’s subconscious.
