Luke 10:1, After These Things

• NKJ Luke 10:1 After these things the Lord appointed seventy others also, and sent them two by two before His face into every city and place where He Himself was about to go.

• “After these things” = “Μετὰ δὲ ταῦτα”

• After what?

• Luke is chronological. Chapters 1-8 lead up to chapter 9.

• Chapter 9 had, the 12 sent out, 5000 fed, count the cost, the Transfiguration, healing a demoniac, Christ's prophecy of this death, and a rejection by the Samaritans.

4

Luke 10:2, Harvest Has Come

• NAU Luke 10:2 And He was saying to them, "The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore beseech the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.

Luke 10:3, Wolves?

Luke 10:3, Biblically, What Are Wolves?

• Luke 10:3 "Go; behold, I send you out as lambs in the midst of wolves.

• Acts 20:29 "I know that after my departure savage wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock;

• Ezekiel 22:27 "Her princes within her are like wolves tearing the prey, by shedding blood and destroying lives in order to get dishonest gain.

• Zephaniah 3:3 Her princes within her are roaring lions, Her judges are wolves at evening; They leave nothing for the morning.

• Matthew 7:15 "Beware of the false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly are ravenous wolves.

• Matthew 10:16 "Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves; so be shrewd as serpents and innocent as doves.

Luke 10:3, Biblically, What Are Wolves?

• Ezekiel 22:27 "Her princes within her are like wolves tearing the prey, by shedding blood and destroying lives in order to get dishonest gain.

• Matthew 7:15 "Beware of the false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly are ravenous wolves.

• The warnings about deception, false teachers, grievous wolves not sparing the flock, and false prophets is the second largest topic in the New Testament.

• The only larger topic is the good news of salvation in Jesus Christ. The only protection we have against the evil one is the shed blood of Jesus Christ and His resurrection.

• 1 Peter 5:8 …like a roaring lion…, (John 10:12, 2 Corinthians 4:4, 11:14)

Hold Your Place But Let’s Turn To;

• Ezekiel 34, the whole chapter is a must read/study, if you want to understand John chapter 10 and who the good Shepherd is. You must also look at Psalm 23:1.

• Jesus is not warning them about literal wolves, but religious wolves.

• But we will just read Ezekiel 34:1-6;

Luke 10:3, Biblically, What Are Wolves? False Prophets

• NAU Deuteronomy 13:1 "If a prophet or a dreamer of dreams arises among you and gives you a sign or a wonder, 2 and the sign or the wonder comes true, concerning which he spoke to you, saying, 'Let us go after other gods (whom you have not known) and let us serve them,' 3 you shall not listen to the words of that prophet or that dreamer of dreams…. 5 "But that prophet or that dreamer of dreams shall be put to death, because he has counseled rebellion against the LORD…

• NAU Jeremiah 23:16 Thus says the LORD of hosts, "Do not listen to the words of the prophets who are prophesying to you. They are leading you into futility; They speak a vision of their own imagination, Not from the mouth of the LORD. 17 "They keep saying to those who despise Me, 'The LORD has said, "You will have peace "'; And as for everyone who walks in the stubbornness of his own heart, They say, 'Calamity will not come upon you’

Luke 10:3, How’d They Get In?

• Acts 20:29-31 I know that after I leave, savage wolves will come in among you and will not spare the flock. 30 Even from your own number men will arise and distort the truth in order to draw away disciples after them. 31 So be on your guard! Remember that for three years I never stopped warning each of you night and day with tears.

• Only 1 degree of error can lead you way off course• Acts 16:18 She kept this up for many days. Finally Paul

became so troubled that he turned around and said to the spirit, "In the name of Jesus Christ I command you to come out of her!" At that moment the spirit left her.

Luke 10:3, Biblically, What Are Wolves?

• Shabbat Inspiration In this week's Bible portion, God warns us not to follow a false prophet even if he seems able to perform overt miracles. How can one distinguish whom to follow and who is misleading? God is very clear on this point – if a message is inherently false, then regardless of the wonders and miracles performed, this man will be deemed a false prophet. God has already given us His commandments, and will never change them. Just as God redeemed His nation and performed unbelievable miracles in Egypt, He alone is sovereign over the world, and we must only follow Him!

• Luke 10:6, We All Need Rest

• NAU Luke 10:6 "If a man of peace is there, your peace will rest on him; but if not, it will return to you.

13

Let's read Luke 10:13 –16

14

Luke 10:18, Like The Lightning

• NAU Luke 17:24 "For just like the lightning, when it flashes out of one part of the sky, shines to the other part of the sky, so will the Son of Man be in His day.

• NAU Luke 10:18 And He said to them, "I was watching Satan fall from heaven like lightning.

• NAU Zechariah 9:14 Then the LORD will appear over them, And His arrow will go forth like lightning; And the Lord GOD will blow the trumpet, And will march in the storm winds of the south.

Luke 10:19, Scorpions

• NAU Luke 10:19 "Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing will injure you.

Luke 10:13 Miracles?

• NAU Luke 10:13 "Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the miracles had been performed in Tyre and Sidon which occurred in you, they would have repented long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes.

• Miracles, 1st. century and Great Tribulation, or always?

• NAU 2 Thessalonians 2:9 that is, the one whose coming is in accord with the activity of Satan, with all power and signs and false wonders,

Micah 7:15, Are Miracles Possible?

• Micah 7:15 "As in the days when you came out from the land of Egypt, I will show you miracles.“

• Timothy Keller said, “If there is a Creator God, there is nothing illogical at all about the possibility of miracles. After all, if he created everything out of nothing, it would hardly be a problem for him to rearrange parts of it as and when he wishes.”

Let's read Luke 10:17 –24

19

Luke 10:21, Intelligence

• NAU Luke 10:21 At that very time He rejoiced greatly in the Holy Spirit, and said, "I praise You, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and intelligent and have revealed them to infants. Yes, Father, for this way was well-pleasing in Your sight.

• The “You have hidden these things from the wise and intelligent” to be expanding and accelerating in these days. Who would've ever thought that professors and scientists would actually believe that you can get something out of nothing with an explosion, and life out of non life.

Luke 10:21, Intelligence, SMART MOLLUSKS, TODAY'S CREATION MOMENT

• According to modern thinking, intelligence is a product of several factors. Of course, the most important requirement is that the creature must be high on the evolutionary tree. Intelligence is also related to life span, the longer the better, and the fact that they are social creatures.

• However, don’t tell this to a group of creatures who are considered very low on the evolutionary tree because they have very short

• life spans and are usually solitary. Various studies are showing that octopuses, cousin to the lowly clam, are among the most intelligent creatures on earth. Researchers have found that octopuses not only learn how to solve problems like mazes, but remember what they learn. They report that at one marine lab, some octopuses would sneak out of their tanks at night to eat fish in other tanks. But more indicative of intelligence is the fact that octopuses show personality. Different individuals may, for example, react to an unfamiliar item with curiosity, fear or even by attacking it. Another indication of intelligence is play. Octopuses will play with floating objects in their tanks in much the same way as a child will play with floating toys in the tub.

• None of the traditional evolutionary explanations for intelligence apply to the octopus. Actually, none of those explanations apply to any creature since all received their intelligence from our Creator.

Luke 10:21, IntelligenceTODAY'S CREATION MOMENT,

THE WEAVERBIRD

• Intelligence – as much as is needed and no more – is widely found throughout God's creation. So intelligence alone is not what makes man special.

• Consider the weaverbird. The nest of the weaverbird is woven of strips of fiber and grass. Using beak and feet, the male uses loops and knots to weave its hanging nest. Then, the nest is inspected by a prospective mate. If she doesn't like the nest's construction, she turns down the hopeful male. The male then rebuilds the entire nest. Some males have

• been seen re-building their nest two dozen times before being accepted by a prospective mate. Certain weaverbirds actually build cities of nests protected by a woven roof. One roof was 15 feet across! Now, all this requires a certain level of intelligence.

• So it is not intelligence that sets man apart from the animal kingdom. No, it is the fact that our Creator made us to have a special relationship with Him. Even though we are a pretty bad lot, God loved mankind so much that He chose to die as Jesus on the cross that we may be forgiven. Anyone who has accepted Christ in faith has the promise of being made a new creation, beginning right here in this life and into eternal life in the next! That's the wide gulf between man and animal!

Let's read Luke 10:25 –37

25

Luke 10:25, What Shall I Do

• NAU Luke 10:25 And a lawyer stood up and put Him to the test, saying, "Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?”

• Good question!

• Jesus did not answer "Be the best you can be in your religion”.

• KJV Matthew 5:48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.

26

Inherit

• NAU Luke 10:25 … "Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?"

Luke 10:25-37, Bear One Another's Burdens

• ESV Philippians 2:4 Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.

• We cannot obediently follow Christ and be unconcerned, and unhelpful, about those around us.

• Commanded to help Christians first also, And then the world, and our non-Christian neighbors.

• NAU Galatians 6:1-10, …2 Bear one another's burdens, and thereby fulfill the law of Christ….

• The ultimate fulfilling of the love of Christ, and helping your neighbor, is to tell him the answer to the question “what shall I do to inherit eternal life?” (Luke 10:25).

• It is the ultimate religious hypocrisy to think that we have loved our neighbor, or help our neighbor, while at the same time leaving him in spiritual darkness, headed for hell.

Luke 10:27, Love Your Neighbor

• NAU Luke 10:27 And he answered, "YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR STRENGTH, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND; AND YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF."

• Henri Amiel said, “Pay bad people with your goodness; fight their hatred with your kindness. Even in you do not achieve victory over other people, you will conquer yourself.”

Luke 10:27, Brain Mind

• NAU Luke 10:27 And he answered, "YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR STRENGTH, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND; AND YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.”

• NAU Hebrews 10:16 "THIS IS THE COVENANT THAT I WILL MAKE WITH THEM AFTER THOSE DAYS, SAYS THE LORD: I WILL PUT MY LAWS UPON THEIR HEART, AND ON THEIR MIND I WILL WRITE THEM," He then says,

• NAU Titus 1:15 To the pure, all things are pure; but to those who are defiled and unbelieving, nothing is pure, but both their mind and their conscience are defiled.

• NAU Colossians 3:2 Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth.

• Job 38:36• "Who hath put wisdom in the inward parts? or who hath given

understanding to the heart?"

Luke 10:27,

• Luke 10:27 And he answered, "YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR STRENGTH, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND; AND YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF."

• Deuteronomy 6:5 "You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.

• Mark 12:30 AND YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND, AND WITH ALL YOUR STRENGTH.‘

Luke 10:28, Law Keeping

• NAU Luke 10:28 And He said to him, "You have answered correctly; DO THIS AND YOU WILL LIVE.”

• No one has kept the Law that perfectly, except Jesus Christ.

• NAU Romans 3:23, +, 10 as it is written, "THERE IS NONE RIGHTEOUS, NOT EVEN ONE;

• NAU Acts 15:10 …a yoke which neither our fathers nor we have been able to bear?

32

Luke 10:29, Self Justifying Religion

• NAU Luke 10:29 But wishing to justify himself, he said to Jesus, "And who is my neighbor?”

• His position, and this exchange with Jesus is a summary of all human religion. Trying to be justified before God by your own religious good works, while remaining a sinner in your heart. Good works could never pay the penalty for sin, because the penalty for sin is the second death.

33

Luke 10:29, My Neighbor?

• Video clip of, “A Muslim Confronts Ravi Zacharias In Regards To Christianity”

• Luke 10:29 But wishing to justify himself, he said to Jesus, "And who is my neighbor?"

• Romans 13:8 Owe nothing to anyone except to love one another; for he who loves his neighbor has fulfilled the law.

• 1 Corinthians 10:24 Let no one seek his own good, but that of his neighbor.

• Galatians 5:14 For the whole Law is fulfilled in one word, in the statement, "YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.“

• James 2:8 If, however, you are fulfilling the royal law according to the Scripture, "YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF," you are doing well.

Luke 10:27, Love The Lord

• NAU Luke 10:27 And he answered, "YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR STRENGTH, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND; AND YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF."

Luke 10:33

• Luke 10:33-37

• A Sunday school teacher was telling her class the story of the Good Samaritan. She asked the class, "If you saw a person lying on the roadside, all wounded and bleeding, what would you do?”

• A thoughtful little girl broke the hushed silence, "I think I'd throw up."

Luke 10:37, Go And Do Likewisetreethinkers.blogspot.com

• NKJ Luke 10:37…Jesus said to him, "Go and do likewise."

• “You’ve heard of Dead Man’s Gulch? It was named because of the perseveration of a novelist named Vladimer Nabokov, who visited the poet and publisher James Laughlin at his home in Utah. Nabokov was an ardent lover of butterflies, always wandering landscapes wherever he visited to add to his collection. Laughlin told the story that Nabokov, while visiting his house, went looking for butterflies. When he returned at dusk, he told Laughlin that during a hot pursuit of a butterfly over Bear Gulch, he heard someone groaning down by the stream. “Did you stop and check it out?” asked Laughlin. “No,” Nabokov replied, “I had to get that butterfly.” Sure enough, the next day a prospector’s body was discovered there and it was renamed, in Nabokov’s honor, Dead Man’s Gulch.

TODAY'S CREATION MOMENTTHE MOST COMPLEX STRUCTURE IN THE UNIVERSE

• Whether you know it or not, you are the proud owner of the most complex arrangement of matter in the universe. I am speaking of your brain. Even though it weighs only three pounds, the brain's structure is so complex that it defies all explanation except to admit that a higher intelligence created it.

• The average brain has ten billion neurons and multiple billions of connections. It has been estimated that the brain is able to hold one million times more information than anyone could possibly learn in a lifetime. If true, this suggests that man was smarter in the past or meant to live much longer. Thanks to the brain, you can listen to someone talk and begin to put your reply together for him while your brain is also directing a number of other projects – like your heart beat, breathing, and blood chemistry –without your conscious attention. Your brain, through its extended sensory system, allows your finger to feel a vibration of less than eight-one-thousandths of an inch and lets you see 10 million different colors.

• The brain is so marvelously complex that even scientists who deny the soul and believe that the material stuff is all that exists have admitted that the brain leads them to wonder if there is not more to reality. Some are now even willing to talk about a spiritual reality.
