Genesis 6:9-13 This is the genealogy of Noah. Noah was a just man, perfect in

his generations. Noah walked with God. (10) And Noah begot three sons: Shem, Ham, and Japheth. (11) The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence. (12) So God

looked upon the earth, and indeed it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted their way on the earth. (13) And God said to Noah, "The end of all flesh has come before Me, for the earth is filled with

violence through them; and behold, I will destroy them with the earth.

LESSONS FROM NOAH’S ARK

Robert Fulghum, All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten.

A. “Everything I need to know I learned from Noah’s ark.”  1. Don’t miss the boat.2. Remember that we are all in the same boat.3. Plan ahead. It wasn’t raining when Noah built

the Ark.4. Stay fit. When you’re 600 years old, someone

may ask you to do something really big.5. Don’t listen to critics; just get on with the job

that needs to be done.6. For safety’s sake, travel in pairs.7. Speed isn’t always an advantage. The snails

were on board with the cheetahs.8. When you’re stressed, float a while.9. Remember, the Ark was built by amateurs; the

Titanic by professionals.10.No matter the storm, when you’re with God,

there’s always a rainbow waiting.

EVERYTHING I NEED TO KNOW, I LEARNED FROM

NOAH’S ARK

I. GOD HATES SIN  A.Genesis 6:5 Then the LORD saw that the

wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

B.Noah’s society that was sinful to the core. 1. People’s thoughts were wicked.  2. Their hearts were corrupt.  3. Their imaginations were evil

continually.  4. And it grieved God’s heart.  5. So He decided to destroy the world with

a great flood.

Page 7: Lessons from Noah's Ark

I. GOD HATES SIN  C. I’m not sure we appreciate this aspect of

God’s character.  1. Yes, God is love. 2. But He hates sin.  3. If I am to be more like God, I need to

love righteousness and hate wickedness.

II. GOD’S PATIENCE IS LIMITED  A. Genesis 6:6-7 And the LORD was sorry that He

had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart. (7) So the LORD said, "I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth, both man and beast, creeping thing and birds of the air, for I am sorry that I have made them."

B. Genesis 6:11-13 The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence. (12) So God looked upon the earth, and indeed it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted their way on the earth. (13) And God said to Noah, "The end of all flesh has come before Me, for the earth is filled with violence through them; and behold, I will destroy them with the earth.

Page 9: Lessons from Noah's Ark

II. GOD’S PATIENCE IS LIMITED  C.He is longsuffering.  Forbearing.  Patient.

1. For 120 years Noah preached for people to repent.

2. But there came a time when God’s patience ended.

3. The door of the ark was shut.

D.Today, God patently waits for us to come to Him.  1. But time will end. 2. The Lord will return.  3. And the “door will be shut.”

Page 10: Lessons from Noah's Ark

III. GOD DEMANDS OBEDIENCE  A. Genesis 6:14-16 "Make yourself an ark of

gopherwood; make rooms in the ark, and cover it inside and outside with pitch. (15) And this is how you shall make it: The length of the ark shall be three hundred cubits, its width fifty cubits, and its height thirty cubits. (16) You shall make a window for the ark, and you shall finish it to a cubit from above; and set the door of the ark in its side. You shall make it with lower, second, and third decks.

B. Genesis 6:22 Thus Noah did; according to all that God commanded him, so he did.

Page 11: Lessons from Noah's Ark

III. GOD DEMANDS OBEDIENCE  C. Genesis 7:5 And Noah did according to all

that the LORD commanded him.

D. God told Noah to build an ark out of gopher wood. 1. He gave the exact specifications.   2. Faith motivated Noah to reverently obey

God.  3. And build it exactly as God said.  4. Without addition.  Or substitution.

E. The life lesson is simple.  Faith works. Acts.  Obeys.  Faith does exactly what God says.  Period.

IV. GOD PUNISHES DISOBEDIENCE

A. Genesis 6:17 And behold, I Myself am bringing floodwaters on the earth, to destroy from under heaven all flesh in which is the breath of life; everything that is on the earth shall die.

B. Genesis 7:20-23 The waters prevailed fifteen cubits upward, and the mountains were covered. (21) And all flesh died that moved on the earth: birds and cattle and beasts and every creeping thing that creeps on the earth, and every man. (22) All in whose nostrils was the breath of the spirit of life, all that was on the dry land, died. (23) So He destroyed all living things which were on the face of the ground: both man and cattle, creeping thing and bird of the air. They were destroyed from the earth. Only Noah and those who were with him in the ark remained alive.

IV. GOD PUNISHES DISOBEDIENCE

C.Other people could have boarded the ark.  1. There was room.  2. Noah preached for people to repent.  But

they chose to ignore it. 3. So, what happened to those outside the

ark?  4. They were lost!

D.Today, God calls us to get in “the ark of safety.”  1. To be a part of his called out people. 2. To trust him.  3. Obey him. 4. Serve Him.

V. GOD BLESSES THE RIGHTEOUS

A.Genesis 6:9 This is the genealogy of Noah. Noah was a just man, perfect in his generations. Noah walked with God.

B.Genesis 7:1 Then the LORD said to Noah, "Come into the ark, you and all your household, because I have seen that you are righteous before Me in this generation.

C.Genesis 9:1 So God blessed Noah and his sons, and said to them: "Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth.

Page 15: Lessons from Noah's Ark

V. GOD BLESSES THE RIGHTEOUS

C.Noah found favor with God.  1. He was a righteous man. 2. And he influenced his family to be

godly.  3. And they were rewarded.  4. I wonder if Noah was ridiculed for his

righteousness?  5. If he was, there is no doubt that the

reward was worth the ridicule!

GOD MADE A COVENANTA. NOAH & THE RAINBOW - Genesis 9:13-17 I set My

rainbow in the cloud, and it shall be for the sign of the covenant between Me and the earth. (14) It shall be, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the rainbow shall be seen in the cloud; (15) and I will remember My covenant which is between Me and you and every living creature of all flesh; the waters shall never again become a flood to destroy all flesh. (16) The rainbow shall be in the cloud, and I will look on it to remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is on the earth." (17) And God said to Noah, "This is the sign of the covenant which I have established between Me and all flesh that is on the earth."

GOD STILL DELIVERS THE GODLY

B. GOD DELIVERS THE GODLY - 2 Peter 2:4-9 For if God did not spare the angels who sinned, but cast them down to hell and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved for judgment; (5) and did not spare the ancient world, but saved Noah, one of eight people, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood on the world of the ungodly; (6) and turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes, condemned them to destruction, making them an example to those who afterward would live ungodly; (7) and delivered righteous Lot, who was oppressed by the filthy conduct of the wicked (8) (for that righteous man, dwelling among them, tormented his righteous soul from day to day by seeing and hearing their lawless deeds)-- (9) then the Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptations and to reserve the unjust under punishment for the day of judgment,
