 CELEBRATION OF PARYUSHAN PARVAYEAR 2014

This year Paryushan Parva begins from Friday 22nd August 2014 till Friday 29th August, 2014. 

The day of Samvatsari is on Saturday 30th, August 2014. 

    The paryushan parva is generally celebrated by daily meditation, prayer, religious education and practices. During this period fasting 

and study of Holy Scriptures is performed. Shwetambara Jains celebrate an eight day festival. Starting from the fourth day it is customary for the Shvetambars to read the Kalpa Sutra the Holy Scripture which recounts the life of lord Mahavira. The book 

recounts the fourteen dreams of Mahavira’s mother before his birth, followed by the story of his birth and his life as well as his liberation.  Final day of Paryushan Parva is Samvatsari Pratikraman.  It is the 

time for confession and seeking forgiveness for all wrong doings they may have  committed during the year just passed. One also forgives all the other life forms of their wrong deeds which may have been 

done to one's own self.
