How many of you made your faith commitment to
Christ prior to your 18th birthday?
Ages at which Americans say they accepted Christ
And we emphasize children in our ministry because Jesus did!
The Essential Jesus as
Revealed in the Gospel of Mark
Mark 10:13-14 People were bringing little children to Jesus to have him touch them, but the disciples rebuked them. When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.
Mark 10:15-16 I tell you the truth, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it." And he took the children in his arms, put his hands on them and blessed them.
Mark 10:13 People were bringing little children to Jesus to have him touch them…
The parents wanted their children to be blessed!
The attitude of the parents
Mark 10:13 People were bringing little children to Jesus to have him touch them
The attitude of the disciples
but the disciples rebuked them.
The disciples wanted these children to go away!
Mark 10:14 When Jesus saw this, he was indignant.
The attitude of Jesus
He said to them, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.”
Jesus wanted the children to come to get blessed!
Mark 10:15-16 I tell you the truth, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it." And he took the children in his arms, put his hands on them and blessed them.
The attitude of Jesus
To receive God’s kingdom as a little child
We must accept God’s offer with a faith that is. . . “utterly dependent. . .totally trusting”
To receive God’s kingdom as a little child
Bottom line: Jesus is saying that we must come to a place where we realize we are utterly dependent upon God … and are
totally trusting him to meet our greatest need … which is to enter his kingdom!
So we must come to HIM with empty
hands and open hearts!
To receive God’s kingdom as a little child
Mark 10:15-16 I tell you the truth, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it." And he took the children in his arms, put his hands on them and blessed them.
Here at Grace . . .
We proclaim the gospel, the good news of Jesus Christ!
Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Have you received “the gift?” Have you come as a little child with empty hands
and an open heart?
