WHAT IS

REAL LOVE?

Love is biblical

Matthew 22:37-4037 And He said to him, “Yous shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. 38 And this is the thegreat and first commandment.

Matthew 22:37-4039 And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. 40 On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.

The Bible is ultimately about God’s love. Before it talks to us about our love, it talks to us about God’s love.

Otherwise, the Bible becomes a series of principles to live by instead of a

person to live for.

Before the Bible is a series of principles to live by, it’s a person to

live for, a person named Jesus Christ who is and shows, and does the love

of God.

SELF-LOVE

Romans 5:55 And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.

LOVE IS

SACRIFICIAL

John 3:1616 For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son….

There is no rightunderstanding of love

apart from the love of God.

James 2:8-138 If you really fulfill the royal law according to the Scripture, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself,” you are doing well. 9 But if you show partiality, you are committing sin and are convicted by the law as transgressors.

James 2:8-1310 For whoever keeps the whole law but fails in one point has become accountable for all of it. 11 For He who said “Do not commit adultery” also said, ”Do not murder.” If you do not commit adultery but do murder, you have become transgressor of the law.

James 2:8-1312 So speak and so act as those who are to be judged under the law of liberty. 13 For judgment is without mercy to one who has shown no mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment.

SOVEREIGN

LOVE

He has the power and control, but He showed His love by

fulfilling it when He can just violate it.

Mercy is where you deserve something bad and you don’t get it.

Matthew 5:17-1817 Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but fulfill them. 18 For truly I say to you,until heaven and earth pass a way, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished.

THE ROYAL LAW

Jesus fulfilled the law for us, and He does a work in us so that we now love

the royal law---and we love, obey, serve and want to become more like

the King.

PERFECT OR

IMPERFECT?

Matthew 5:4848 You therefore must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

THE FULFILMENT OF OUR PERFECTION IS THROUGH JESUS

ALONE, not just obedience.

1 John 4:9-109 In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent His only Son into the world, so that we might live through Him.

1 John 4:9-1010 In this is love, not that we have loved God but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.

TOLERANCE

AND

TRANSFORMATION

The love of God teaches us to accept “the sinner” but we don’t love to

tolerate them but to transform them.
