Ecce Homo - When religious art goes weird

Ecce Homo (Behold Man) is a fairly straightforward fresco of Jesus by the Spanish painter Elias Garcia Martinez. Residing in the Sanctuary of the Mercy Church in Boria, Zaragoza, the painting rose to fame in 2012 when Cecilia Giménez, an 85 year-old local “artist”, painted over the fresco in an attempt to restore it.Renamed Ecce Mono (Behold Monkey), Potato Jesus, Dum Dum Jesus, and Beast Jesus it became an overnight meme sensation with hundreds of BAD photoshop spoofs littering the web.

This site by BBH London allowed people to “restore” the fresco, promote it via Pinterest & Twitter, and compete for prizes. The results are awful. And hilarious. http://www.ceciliaprize.com/

Gangnam Style is K-hop dance song by the Korean artist PSY. The song is from PSY’s sixth studio album PSY 6 (Six Rules) and the video was released on July 15th, 2012. “Gangnam Style” refers to the posh, trend setting district of Seoul and is vaguely comparable to the English slang words “swag” and “yolo”.

Besides being catchy as hell, the video is well known for PSY’s (now) signature “horse-riding dance” and the “yoga butt” scene. Essentially Psy is caricaturing elite culture by singing about what a classy girl he wants while acting like a buffoon, contrasting reality and image.

Here Comes Honey Boo Boo Child - Breakaway TLC Hit Honey Boo Boo Child is a Toddlers and Tiaras (and Extreme Couponing) spin-off show featuring seven year old beauty queen Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson and her family. The show revolves around beauty pageants, “Go Go Juice”, fat jokes, teen pregnancy jokes, fart jokes, redneck jokes, a gay pet pig, and the novelty of a seven year old child talking like a black drag queen.

Official reviews have been mixed, calling it everything from a horror show to exploitation to dehumanizing to a car crash. However, the internet really, really likes Honey Boo Boo Child clips and GIFS.
