Dear Sisters and Brothers,

By now you will have heard, I’m sure, that my me as an Associate Pastor at San Luis Rey Parish is coming to an end. I will leave on July 1 for home-leave to visit my mother and family in Ireland, and a er that I will have a short sabba cal before my next assignment. I have had almost seven years at San Luis Rey Parish. To say it simply, it has been a joy to minister here and to know so many wonderful people in this faith community. Your goodness and kindness to me over the years is a treasure I will carry with me always. For my failings and shortcomings I ask your for-giveness, and to anyone I may have hurt I say, “I’m sor-ry.” To our Hispanic sisters and brothers I want to say a very special “Gracias de corazón” for your pa ence with me as I struggled to speak your beau ful language, but also for helping me to understand my faith through your eyes. To our Samoan, Filipino and Guamanian communi-

es I also express my gra tude for enriching my faith from your unique tradi ons. When I visit Ireland, my Madre Patria, and they ask me what I think of people in America I always say that you are the most generous and courteous people I know. You are generous in your praise, in your apprecia on for the ministry of your priests, and with your encourage-ment. I am deeply thankful for the opportunity to have been a part of this faith-family and to have received so much from you. You made me a be er priest. Fr. Luis used to say to me some mes when transi on was in the air, “Nothing is forever, brother!” I know what he means, that things change and we move on in our lives. However, I believe that Love is forever because God is Love. It is this love, which has been the heart of my experience at San Luis Rey Parish that I take with me and hold in my heart as I say goodbye – love that is woven into the fabric of my life forever. There are so many people to thank that I couldn’t even begin to name them. I hope you will allow me to men on just two: Fr. David, for his humanity, kindness and for-bearance – I know I have tried his pa ence from me to

me and I apologize for any headaches I have caused him. As Pastor he has “the smell of the sheep” that Pope Francis talks about when he describes the good pastor, and he has a compassionate, Franciscan heart. I am in-debted to Shirley Gonzalez, Parish Secretary, for always having my back, for her wise advice and unfailing good humor. Also thanks to the Parish Staff and so many won-derful ministers and volunteers; they work hard to make this parish the vibrant and welcoming Franciscan Com-munity it truly is. I look forward to saying goodbye to you personally on Sunday at St. Francis Hall immediately a er Mass. Please keep me in your prayers. With much love and gra tude, Fr. Adrian.

A QUOTE FROM POPE FRANCIS

The media only writes about the sinners and the scan-dals, he said, but that's normal, because 'a tree that falls makes more noise than a forest that grows.’ ― Pope Francis

God Alone Suffices- Slawomir Biela [269Bie]

offers a lucid analysis of a path to sanc ty in the midst of struggles and challenges of everyday living. If you are overwhelmed by anxiety, pressure and stress, you may struggle unaided with the danger that threatens your own intensive desires. But you can choose the way of faith, trus ng that the endangerment you face is the op-portunity leading you towards Jesus who controls all situ-a ons. The Last Dance but not the Last Song- Renee Bondi [269Bon] is the story of a young woman who at age 29 became a quadriplegic by an accident. Through all this Renee remained courageously hopeful and learned to live daily beyond her fears, coming to rediscover God’s presence and peace in her life. The Pummeled Heart-Finding Peace through Pain- Antoine e Bosco [269Bos] is a book for all of us who try to make sense of the dark side of life. INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT JUNIPERO SERRA Move forward and never turn back - Junipero Serra

Did you know that on November 24, 1713, a very ny, very weak li le baby was born in Petra on the island of Mallorca? He was bap zed quickly because everyone was

afraid he would die. Miguel Jose Serra did grow up to be a small man. But this small man walked thousands of miles through Mexico and the Californias in the service of the Church to evangelize the Na ve Americans.

Queridos Hermanos y Hermanas,
